4 out of 5 eggsfrom the perspective of a system builder

Pros: Overall I cannot say that I like Compaq. Most of them come with limited upgrade paths and don't seem to have a very long life span but this one seems to be different. When it first arrived I noticed that this is not build for games but with a little know how and some time this machine can be upgraded to the following specs

4 gigs of patriot PC2-6400 ram with heat spreaders
an AM2 socket phenom 2 triple core processor
a creative labs 5.1 sound blaster audio card
a 1000 watt power supply
an Nvidia GeForce GT 440

I have been using this configuration for games for a good while now and it has not failed me.

Cons: The cons for this machine are that right out of the box the only kind of graphics adapter that you will find here is a rather weak Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 chipset, this is only for BASIC computing and not really for hardcore gaming. The processor right out of the box is a low end AMD Sempron CPU that is again for the basics of looking up things on the internet, small games, basic computing ect, but it can be upgraded. The case is not the worst I have seen but it posed a large challenge when I was fitting it for games. When you upgrade it it will run hot and it will need an additional case fan at the bottom to help it get proper air flow and also to help it manage the heat that the graphics card will be throwing. It also helps to bind most of the cables to help with pulling cool air from the front to the back.

Other Thoughts: Over all this machine starts stripped but as I said with some time and effort it can do good things, mine now sits at my shop providing me with the joys of warhammer 40,000, Quake 4 and F.E.A.R. 2 during my lunch breaks while my new gaming rig takes over my living room. Maybe with some upgrading you can like yours as much as I like mine.

4 out of 5 eggsWill run Windows XP

Pros: Quiet, cheap, upgradeable

Cons: 256MB of RAM is taken by onboard graphics
No OS recovery CD

Other Thoughts: You can use the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 drivers for XP. (I'm actually using XP 64bit Edition)

I swapped the processor out for a Athlon X2 5000, and it works perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet

Pros: Quietest PC I've ever used. Everything you would expect from such a low priced PC. My camera memory cards load quickly considering my Canon has 15mp resolution.

Cons: If I'd paid $500 plus for this PC, I might be able to find fault, but I only paid about $300.

Other Thoughts: I normally build my own PCs, but there is no way I could build a basic PC for $300 (with or without Windows installed).

4 out of 5 eggsIts OK

Pros: Cheap. Really cheap. Windows 7, 2GB of RAM, and a PCIe slot.

Who uses a modem anymore? Save the $5 it cost and dump it.

Cons: Cheap, wonder when it will die. 1 stick of DDR2 so no dual channel, 2GB for a 64 bit OS, great less compatibility for programs.

Other Thoughts: Its cheap, I added a 4550 for dual video outputs as this is just a PC for video conferencing with a projector. Can't comment on the mouse and KB that's included, used a wireless pair I already bought for the project.

I almost never buy pre builts due to the lifespan and power efficiency, however at the sale price it was too good to pass up, I could afford to through another hundred at it to make it do the job needed.

3 out of 5 eggsbeginner start.

Pros: Good computer out of the box, works great and fully operational on the go. All the specs are pretty identical to the one in here. Running at Window 7 64 bit version, which is quite new. Power button is at a weird spot (Sideway, up top), two USB port in front, 5 in back. keyboard and mouse were included, so I'm surprised. Youtube video play fast and smooth, which is nice. Start up time was fast as well (Regardless of how terrible my old laptop was)

Easy to assemble and easy to upgrade.

Cons: Does not include a graphic card (Yes I'm a gamer), if you want to play hardcore game, you have to buy graphic card and additional power supply separately. This computer is for work relative ONLY!
4 Slots (One PCI-Express 2.0 and two PCI slots, wasn't satisfied to see it isn't for SLI ready =\)

Other Thoughts: A few month later after running this system, I upgraded from this system to the current:
4 GB Ram
AMD Sempron LE-1300 (Still trying to upgrade, it sucks)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
550 Watts (Upgraded, from 250 Watt)

rest is the same.

3 out of 5 eggsCompaq sucks

Pros: I do not want to stroke points from Newegg, I will however be straight. This rolled to my house without the 4 point plug-in installed. It is a good thing it did not arrive at my mon & dads house. I do not hold Newegg responsible. I build comps so all good.

Cons: Newegg rocks, Tell me who sucks?

Other Thoughts: Dumb, I am not.

5 out of 5 eggsCQ5300F

Pros: PC has a nice look and performs great for average use. I can't build a system (with windows 7) for this price. Great deal and with Newegg.com you get reliable service and quick shipping on anything you purchase.

Cons: None so far, it does everything I need it to

Other Thoughts: Purchased a Gigabyte GN-Wpo1GS Wireless card with this system and it works great. Strong signal and detects router immediately.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Great! I love this computer. Many people say that Compaq's arent very good. But I recomend it. It is WELL worth the The bucks. And it surprisingly it runs great for gameing. (I am a heavy PC gamer and it games perfectly)

Cons: The power button is in an odd place, but its on the right side of the PC, on the upper left.

This is not really a con, but the rear back panel is up side down. Its just something to get used to.

Over time, it does slow down just a pinch, but all you need to do is restart it, and its back to normal.( It might have slowed down a pinch because i game on it)

Other Thoughts: My old Dell computer was about to die for goods, and i could not afford a new expensive computer (thats why i tryed a Compaq). But my brother told me about newegg, and then i desided to check it out and i really liked it.

4 out of 5 eggsKeep in mind

Pros: ok

Cons: Note -- there's no wireless router here, so it won't work in your home pc wireless network without additional hardware. power button very hard to find for my 73 year old mom and myself.
