For an 'off the shelf' machine, it's an outstanding value.
- Pros: The FX7026 is a solid machine for the price, combining a decent (if not spectacular) Intel-sourced motherboard, a Q9300, an overclocked EVGA 8800GT (650/950x2), 4GB of RAM and Vista64 Home Premium at a price that's roughly equal to the cost of building an identically specced box yourself. Its absolutely ripped through every game I've thrown at it so far, but I've yet to pick up a copy of Crysis to truly test it.
The case is largely toolless, with thumbscrews for the side panel and HDD cage and a locking clip for the expansion slots. Surprisingly, it's not too cramped, given it's size (and the presence of a duct on the CPU cooling solution that routes the exhaust through the side panel).
The machine is almost inaudible during general operation, though noise does pick up when you start to throw more demanding applications at it.
- Cons: Expansion options are fairly limited by the µATX motherboard (2 PCIEx1 and 1 PCI slot) and 'just barely enough' 400W power supply.
While the case is fairly easy to work in and with, it won't be mistaken for an enthusiast's piece, with limited cooling options and an odd faux-carbon fiber and orange color scheme that may be a bit off-putting.
The included mouse is an extremely basic 400dpi 2-button + wheel unit and the speakers are pretty tinny sounding - not terribly surprising given that they draw power from a USB port(!).
- Other Thoughts: As a turnkey gaming machine solution, the FX7026 is an interesting set of compromises that would closely mirror those made by the average 'builder on a budget', with only a few additional concessions to cost-cutting.
The only real weak point in my opinion is the PSU, but that's a fairly easy/inexpensive component to replace down the road.
Those just looking for an easy way to be able to play modern PC games or a fairly high-performance 'all-round' machine on a budget are Gateway's target market here and this machine does a great job of catering to them.
Good Balanced System - worth the money.
- Pros: Highly recommended if you need out of the box top-of-the-line system which:
- small and quiet; - ready-to-go balanced system will last you 1-1,5years no problem w/o opening case; - took 10min from plug in of power to start browsing Internet or install games; - brilliant colors and speed on newest games (i bought it to run Age of Conan); - works with my 2007 Samsung 40 LCD TV via DVI-to-HDMI cable
- Cons: 1. Not really this machine's problem: Windows VISTA. At this point any old software/game or hardware might not run at all or run with crashes/errors if it wasnt designed for Vista 64bit.
2. Limited Motherboiard, only 400watt power supply too - No room for expanding. But again - it is balanced and fast as it is, buy it like laptop - never open :). 3. Nvidia Drivers for Vista (i downloaded latest) still buggy and a pain to adjust - but they do work :). 4. Little plastic DVD bay door won't close tight...who cares.
- Other Thoughts: - Do not buy this if you planning to open it and add memory (4gig is plenty) or replace any components, it is balanced system any wrong approach on Windows VISTA and limited motherboard might lead to conflicts or insufficient system resources.
- I didnt buy from NewEgg only because I bought $160 "Protection Plan" from Be$tBuy which in 2years will give me chance to upgrade system for free. And in Be$tBuy it is at the same price (if u add shipping to NewEggs price and CA tax its same price.) Also I decided if its bad I can exchange/fix it faster.

FX7026 Review
- Pros: For the money it is a great computer. Very fast right out of the box. Gateway marketed these computers as a gaming computer. Comes with Vista 64 preinstalled but also comes with Vista 32 disk.
- Cons: Power Supply only 400watts, seems very low for a system like this. Memory is only 667mhz, when it can handle 800mhz and does not have heat sinks on memory.
I would of thought in a gaming system they would of went with the fastest memory the motherboard can handle and have heat sinks on the modules.
Keep in mind the Bios is not configurable to allow voltage changes, etc. The memory voltage is 1.8, so if you upgrade make sure to use the same.
- Other Thoughts: I upgraded the power supply to a Antec Earthwatts 650 model. Fit perfectly and also draws less wattage then the 400watt model, this is due to Antec being like 98% efficient. So my backup batter says it will last approx 43 minutes, then 39 with the old PSU. The 400 watt PSU that came with it is very cheaply made. I recommend upgrading it.
Power Supply
- Pros: I am just wondering if someone can mention how the power supply is with this computer. Is it just a standard 430w?
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: I am just wondering if someone can mention how the power supply is with this computer. Is it just a standard 430w?
Gateway Fx7026
- Pros: Fast, Speed, Cheap but not built cheap.
Gateway Is OK I like Sony but at this price who cares. The 9300 intel chip rocks
- Cons: Buy compatible Ram If you don't it slows to a crawl.
It has 4 but I do 3D animations so I now have 8 it rocks.
- Other Thoughts: I never fill out these reviews but this is so fast and so cheap. I love the 9300 chip
