4 out of 5 eggsFX7026 Review

Pros: For the money it is a great computer. Very fast right out of the box. Gateway marketed these computers as a gaming computer. Comes with Vista 64 preinstalled but also comes with Vista 32 disk.

Cons: Power Supply only 400watts, seems very low for a system like this. Memory is only 667mhz, when it can handle 800mhz and does not have heat sinks on memory.

I would of thought in a gaming system they would of went with the fastest memory the motherboard can handle and have heat sinks on the modules.

Keep in mind the Bios is not configurable to allow voltage changes, etc. The memory voltage is 1.8, so if you upgrade make sure to use the same.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded the power supply to a Antec Earthwatts 650 model. Fit perfectly and also draws less wattage then the 400watt model, this is due to Antec being like 98% efficient. So my backup batter says it will last approx 43 minutes, then 39 with the old PSU. The 400 watt PSU that came with it is very cheaply made. I recommend upgrading it.

Pros: I am just wondering if someone can mention how the power supply is with this computer. Is it just a standard 430w?

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGateway Fx7026

Pros: Fast, Speed, Cheap but not built cheap.
Gateway Is OK I like Sony but at this price who cares.
The 9300 intel chip rocks

Cons: Buy compatible Ram If you don't it slows to a crawl.
It has 4 but I do 3D animations so I now have 8 it rocks.

Other Thoughts: I never fill out these reviews but this is so fast and so cheap. I love the 9300 chip

5 out of 5 eggsSame price to build and good customer service

Pros: The price. Try to build this computer for less. You will at most save 30 dollars. Then get a nice keyboard and mouse and then the speakers. I play Crysis on HIGH settings online and never had a problem. I was gonna build till I saw this.

Cons: Not the computers problem. More of my internet connection. Lags when d/l alot. I d/l like 10 things at once and STILL wanna play online haha. I got a comcast cable connection and it still wont do what I want it to do. Its either pay 50 bucks a month for what I have or like 550 a month for a T1.

Other Thoughts: Before this comp I had a single core Processor and 512 mb RAM and 60 gig HDD BLEH! This comp freaking rules. Get this if you are worried bout building. If you want a comp even better like dual 8800GT oc then build cause this is the only comp your gonna find that plays games for the same price to build. Big difference when buying a prebuilt PC SLI dual 8800GT. And I also bought mine at be$tbuy. Didnt want to pay shipping/tax haha.

4 out of 5 eggsFor an 'off the shelf' machine, it's an outstanding value.

Pros: The FX7026 is a solid machine for the price, combining a decent (if not spectacular) Intel-sourced motherboard, a Q9300, an overclocked EVGA 8800GT (650/950x2), 4GB of RAM and Vista64 Home Premium at a price that's roughly equal to the cost of building an identically specced box yourself. Its absolutely ripped through every game I've thrown at it so far, but I've yet to pick up a copy of Crysis to truly test it.

The case is largely toolless, with thumbscrews for the side panel and HDD cage and a locking clip for the expansion slots. Surprisingly, it's not too cramped, given it's size (and the presence of a duct on the CPU cooling solution that routes the exhaust through the side panel).

The machine is almost inaudible during general operation, though noise does pick up when you start to throw more demanding applications at it.

Cons: Expansion options are fairly limited by the µATX motherboard (2 PCIEx1 and 1 PCI slot) and 'just barely enough' 400W power supply.

While the case is fairly easy to work in and with, it won't be mistaken for an enthusiast's piece, with limited cooling options and an odd faux-carbon fiber and orange color scheme that may be a bit off-putting.

The included mouse is an extremely basic 400dpi 2-button + wheel unit and the speakers are pretty tinny sounding - not terribly surprising given that they draw power from a USB port(!).

Other Thoughts: As a turnkey gaming machine solution, the FX7026 is an interesting set of compromises that would closely mirror those made by the average 'builder on a budget', with only a few additional concessions to cost-cutting.

The only real weak point in my opinion is the PSU, but that's a fairly easy/inexpensive component to replace down the road.

Those just looking for an easy way to be able to play modern PC games or a fairly high-performance 'all-round' machine on a budget are Gateway's target market here and this machine does a great job of catering to them.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Balanced System - worth the money.

Pros: Highly recommended if you need out of the box top-of-the-line system which:
- small and quiet;
- ready-to-go balanced system will last you 1-1,5years no problem w/o opening case;
- took 10min from plug in of power to start browsing Internet or install games;
- brilliant colors and speed on newest games (i bought it to run Age of Conan);
- works with my 2007 Samsung 40 LCD TV via DVI-to-HDMI cable

Cons: 1. Not really this machine's problem: Windows VISTA. At this point any old software/game or hardware might not run at all or run with crashes/errors if it wasnt designed for Vista 64bit.
2. Limited Motherboiard, only 400watt power supply too - No room for expanding. But again - it is balanced and fast as it is, buy it like laptop - never open :).
3. Nvidia Drivers for Vista (i downloaded latest) still buggy and a pain to adjust - but they do work :).
4. Little plastic DVD bay door won't close tight...who cares.

Other Thoughts: - Do not buy this if you planning to open it and add memory (4gig is plenty) or replace any components, it is balanced system any wrong approach on Windows VISTA and limited motherboard might lead to conflicts or insufficient system resources.

- I didnt buy from NewEgg only because I bought $160 "Protection Plan" from Be$tBuy which in 2years will give me chance to upgrade system for free. And in Be$tBuy it is at the same price (if u add shipping to NewEggs price and CA tax its same price.) Also I decided if its bad I can exchange/fix it faster.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Sweet for the Price

Pros: The specs on this system are pretty decent. The memory and quad processor run well. The video card, while not the "highest end" product runs well and I have had 0 problems running the 64bit vista. The PC is stable and runs my adobe cs3 much faster than my old box. I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. Oh, and it runs very quiet. Much quieter than my old brand box.

Cons: I would like a little more storage, but that will be remedied soon with the addition of a 750GB hd. Not to keen on the orange color scheme either.

Other Thoughts: For the specs the box has e.g. the newest quad proc, decent 4GB memory and the twin 320s, the price is definitely right. I couldn't have built the same spec box cheaper myself. I have never owned a product from this manufacturer and I was very leery. I am pleased and pleasantly surprised. Newegg had the box to my house within two days of ordering...pretty cool! Thanks New Egg!

4 out of 5 eggsWhen it works...

Pros: When it's not crashing, it blazes through high-end games, making it all look easy and amazingly beautiful.

Cons: Unfortunately, I am still working through gateway tech support to determine why the graphics card keeps crashing the entire system. Currently waiting for a new card.

Other Thoughts: Excellent value for money!

4 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck

Pros: My pc needed replacing fast and for the specs that this has, there is almost nothing out there that can beat it for the price. The 8800gt is quiet, the fans are basically silent, and it runs peacefully. I just tested the premium video option in Eve and it ran wonderfully. If you want some great gaming for a cheap price this is it for you.

Cons: The sound seems very off for some reason. Less loud and my audio programs refused to use surround sound even though the audio settings were set for it. Also. Be careful. The PSU is only 400 watts so either replace it with something higher if you want to upgrade parts of this.

Other Thoughts: The HD's came all nice and partitioned and there is almost no ugly software. gateway won with this pc.
