5 out of 5 eggsFast and easy setup

Pros: Fast and easy setup, small form factor. I bought the EL1600 to replace an old P3 computer used by my mom. Set up was a snap. This computer is great for email, surfing the internet and basic MS Office tasks. My mom is thrilled with the performance compared to the old P3 machine - she says I am such a good son!

Cons: No PCI slots. No disk to reinstall Windows.

Other Thoughts: Can't really upgrade it, but for what I paid for it and what it's used for, I am not complaining.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: I bought this for my tech unsavvy father. So far it has been great. It is quiet, it plays his movies, has a ton of USB ports, and has XP, which he is familiar with. If he ever has problems, it is small and light, easy to take to my house.

There wasn't a lot to uninstall in terms of junk programs, either.

Cons: There is some upgrade ability, but not a lot because of the small form factor. I think if something breaks in the computer, there isn't much that could be done about it. But it's cheap, so does it matter?

Other Thoughts: For people that want to play simple games (emulators, years old games), poke around online, and do word processing and email, this should be great. I discussed movie watching in the pros...it would be nice if this could be made into a media front, but the video out is only VGA. I suppose it could be done with a USB out or something, but it doesn't seem worth it. The case is too small probably to put in a different video card.

5 out of 5 eggssmall but great

Pros: I have had this computer for nearly a week and it has performed nicely. It has a small foot print and is quiet. I will be giving this to my granddaughter. It is reasonably fast and has plenty of ram and hard drive space. It is true it does not come with recovery disks but burning them was an easy and simple task and of course the biggest pro is it comes with XP.

Cons: The only con, if it is a con, the keyboard and mouse feel cheep but both work well.

Other Thoughts: It is a nice computer for the momey.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For the price it runs well. You obviously cant start playing and new video games but I bought it for my parents and they just use it for the basics and it runs fine. Almost no heat no noise and takes almost no space. Also the drivers all install by automatically when you turn it on so even a beginer could set this up.

Cons: They load so much junk these. This computer had more free trials and other useless stuff on it than any other computer I have bought. While it doesnt come up to much if your a person who likes your computer clean of junk when you set it up prepair to be cleaning this one out for a while.

Other Thoughts: Its worth the price, if it cost a little more I would probably say look elseware. However if you want a basic computer for cheap with very little hassel this one is a good pick. With all the included stuff this is a great starter computer.

5 out of 5 eggsIt Just Makes Sense

Pros: Price versus performance with a new computer under warranty. Quiet and efficient. Does what I use a computer for. Fast enough. Capable enough. GMA 950 video and high definition audio ice the cake.

Cons: No Wi-Fi or memory card reader built in, but that is a minor annoyance easily fixed with inexpensive USB products. No distribution disk for Windows XP, all documentation is on the hard drive. It comes with a modem in one of the expansion slots. I don't know why, but I guess some people out there still use dial-up networking. That could be a plus for those folks.

Other Thoughts: It was either replace a power supply and hard drive on an older P4, or buy this machine. Since I have a Netbook based on the Atom, I knew what this machine could do. Since it was roughly $100 less than my Netbook and it included a DVD burner, I figured it was a good choice. I was right. My only concern was that historically eMachines left me with an impression of cutting corners with their design to produce budget computers, letting performance suffer because of it. Not with the Atom, and not with this machine. It runs XP just fine, and I imagine would run LINUX just fine. Not for someone who need the latest super PC to play Maden 10 or whatever. Just a really capable networking and home office machine. Now I have 2 capable computers based on the Atom that combined cost me less than $500, and I can go anywhere and do anything I need to do with the internet. Buy Intel stock, because these little Atom machines are going to fly off the shelf this holiday season.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome little thing

Pros: Small form factor, decent power, quiet. Perfect for internet with plenty of RAM (for XP that is) and HDD storage.

Cons: Can't really upgrade. Whatever upgrades you would consider would almost be pointless.

Other Thoughts: Great alternative for people who hate Vista or have been shocked over hearing horror stories. (i.e.: Elderly)

Cons: really none at all

4 out of 5 eggsCool!!!

Pros: looks nice and sleek I love the green led
very quiet
runs vista 64
the bios lets you do some advanced stuff unlike most emachines!!!
easy to upgrade memory, and hard disk

Cons: it would be better if it came with 2gigs of ram, and a larger hard disk

Other Thoughts: works great for downloading torrents 24/7 after I slapped a 2 gigs of ram and a roomy 2tb hard disk inside it...hopefully I will see a reduction in my electric bill as I can now turn off my main pc
