Monitor and computer in one, with a footprint on your desk even a laptop might admire, Averatec has a strong entry in the all-in-one computer field. Looking a lot like an ordinary 22" monitor, it has an Intel 64 bit dual core processor moving right along at 2.4 GHz, 2 GB of RAM (maximum is 4 GB), a 320 GB SATA hard drive, an extremely versatile dual layer DVD player/burner, and has both a 10/100/1000 Mb/sec LAN and an 802.11a/b/g wireless card.

Even the mouse and keyboard don't give it away as a computer: they're wireless too. It also packs a built-in webcam, an ATSC (high definition/digital) TV tuner, and a remote control. A four-in-one memory card reader adds to that "media center" feel and capability.

Now, we can't tell you how to spend your hard-earned money, but I can tell you that this thing is running at a pretty good price. You decide, then you tell us. We'll be waiting.

5 out of 5 eggs"Good Computer GREAT PRICE"

Pros: Form comparable to Apple's iMac, good set of specs, GREAT PRICE at $699 (what I paid for mine), still decent price at $749.

Cons: Needs integrated MIC to be perfect... not sure why they left that out

Other Thoughts: At first glance the computer looks great. Once turned on, it only took a few minutes to get Vista up and going, but then it took about an hour to get the updates loaded. I removed the usual "trial" software, there was only MS Office 2007 trial and Norton AV installed. I reloaded MS Office 2007 and then loaded the Adobe Master Suite. Again, we had a couple of hours of updates. Finally I was up and going.

So far everything is running super smooth. I've also loaded all the relevant office apps like QuickBooks, Quicken, TimeSlips, and the rest. Everything loaded perfectly and so far has run without a hitch. I've been pleased with the performance and I'm thrilled with how little space it takes up on the desk. It is virtually identical in size to my 24" iMac cost but over $1000 less.

If you are looking for nearly perfect form and above average function, consider this unit. It has more than enough power for everyday computing and decent graphics for light gaming.

2 out of 5 eggsLooked promising but .......

Pros: A lot of features for the price, bought on sale for $699, fair picture quality while it worked. See item description above.
Socket LGA 775. Bios has clock adjustments. Other reasons listed in previous reviews

Cons: See other reviews. Possibly insufficient cooling. Tuner (WMC) does not detect digital cable channels only analog. Never got the webcam to work plus no mic on unit. While updating drivers to remedy webcam problems, noticed Averatec now owned by Korean Trigem corporation, all driver updates on Trigem site from May 08 apparently before transfer. Next day display did not come on, although power light on button. Tried Ubuntu CD, no effect. Unplugged and plugged several times but then even power light on button did not work anymore. Returned to CUSA.

Other Thoughts: Sure looked promising, if not for the progressive hardware problems, I would have tried different media software (MythTV). Maybe I had a lemon, but was not willing to take another chance, bought a 22" HDTV with PC input instead.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Aesthetics are absolutely beautiful!!! (although it is prone to smudges due to the high gloss finish)
This is a very nice looking pc and for most users would be more than capable of handling day to day work and play. Built in TV tuner and remote is a very nice touch (especially for dorm dwellers or people (like me) who spend ALOT of time in their office. OH... and its CHEAP!

Tech specs not shown:
GPU is MXM type II slot
FSB up to 1066 for cpu and 800 for ram
Ram is full length DDRII

Cons: The Vista performance score came up to be a bit low for me at 3.5. This is almost certainly due to the 8400m graphics set. I have not been able to get the webcam to work with gmail's videochat and I have also been getting bsod's when trying to use the webcam in other applications (such as Picasa). Seems to be a driver issue. Oh... and lastly, they included a webcam but no integrated mic!

Other Thoughts: First off, Newegg is incredible as usual. Low prices, fast shipping, and great customer service.
I am an IT pro at a local university and do pc and product evaluations for the college of engineering here. I mostly like this machine but plan to make a few changes. First, the ram can be upgraded to 4 gb ddr2 800 for super cheap (Newegg - Corsair XMS). I spoke with Averatec/Trigem on the phone and the rep I spoke with was using one with an Intel Q6600. That will be another must have for me. Lastly, the gpu is in an MXM II slot. With some searching I was able to locate an 8600m GT (sure wish Newegg sold 'em -nudge-nudge-). Oh, and for those concerned, Averatec/TriGem has assured me that these upgrades will NOT void the warranty.
RECAP: purchase today!

5 out of 5 eggsDON'T BUY (leave stock available for me!)

Coming Soon!

Pros: Elegant. Simple. Powerful. Solid. Full featured. Inexpensive. The front is a single sheet of glass. There are no bevels around the LCD to catch dust. Buttons and IO ports are logically placed and easy to access. Power cord runs through the center of the stand. Very little OEM software, only three things to uninstall: Office 2007 Trial, Norton Antivirus Trial, and Wildgames. Razor sharp, very bright screen with accurate colors. Very little fan noise from the 80mm rear fan. Hard to detect hard drive noise. Built in cable TV input. The Windows Media Center remote slides into a compartment on the side of the keyboard. How cool is that? No Dead Pixels. No DOA components.

Cons: I only bought one. Seriously, the built in stereo speakers are in the back facing backward, so they don't sound that great. But they're loud and very usable if you're not intending to connect external speakers. The rectangle shaped wireless mouse feels a little funny at first, but it's got good proportions and just the right click firmness. Would be nice if the keyboard had a mouse.

Other Thoughts: This is an extremely great bargain. The design is stunning. I've built and sold hundreds of computers from components purchased on Newegg. I could not build a PC with as much bang, simplicity, and shear beauty as this baby. My mom wanted a new computer for Christmas. I didn't want to build one from scratch. Three years ago I bought her an Averatec laptop that has held up nicely, so I was comfortable with the brand. I was concerned about quality since the thing is so cheap. But hey, no guts, no glory! I can't believe I'm the first to write a review. This unit should be selling like hotcakes. Ok, so it might not be for gamers. But if you need a power PC with the Windows OS and don't want to spend the time building and installing Windows, this is the way to go. It's just flat out gorgeous. Can't get over the remote control compartment in the keyboard.
