makes perfect sense
- Pros: finally a pc that fits the back of a monitor. very compact memory can be upgraded to max 2gb. internal n capable works with newer wireless terminals. OS is linux based hence stability 120 platter drive the n270 is capable enought to do some light photo editing and some LIGHT gaming using built in games.
- Cons: NOT intended for WOW gaming basic internet small server for around the house is about it for this thing
- Other Thoughts: i do not own one of these units. HOWEVER i do own a Eeepc 900a and wish i had ordered this. the major advantages of this over the eee units is obvious as daylight the hdd is much faster. way more space on disk. and much less desktop clutter this would be best for a middle school child with research and to keep them off your i7 chipped gamer you just dropped 6k on.
HT not DC
- Pros: Not DC (read below)
- Cons: Not DC (read below)
- Other Thoughts: My mistake, it's hyperthreaded not dual core. Still nice though, just ordered 2 more.
Nice little Linux server
- Pros: Nice small design, great for a development Linux server. It's dual core and upgradable to 2g, plenty for what I need. The hard drive is plenty big and gigabit ethernet is great. With all it comes with, the price is great. This is the ultimate throwaway Linux server.
It Comes with a recovery disc incase you mess up your custom install too. I read a comment where it didn't but it does.
- Cons: Comes with 2x512mb chips so you have to buy 2x1g chips to upgrade it to maximum memory.
Front door is a little flimsy.
Side panel is a bear to get off.
The Linux distro that comes with it is terrible.
Keyboard has a strange layout on the right side of it and the mouse is small like a laptop mouse.
For me, none of these issues mattered (except maybe the front panel) because I'm using it as a headless Linux box.
- Other Thoughts: I got this last week and installed CentOS 5.2 on it. Redhat EL 4.0 wouldn't recognize the network card and I got tired of banging my head against the wall trying to get the downloaded driver to work. It's sitting by itself with a network cable and power cord plugged into it, quiet as a clam running a development server for me. I'm totally thrilled.
I was thinking of getting another one to see how Windows 2003 Server ran on it. 2g of ram is plenty for most OS (well before Vista was unleashed on the world).
