5 out of 5 eggsExcelent cost x benefit

Pros: Small, quiet, low power consumption. Three fundamental characteristics for a file server / media server. Easy and fast recovery.

Cons: Xandros OS instead of Ubuntu. Xandros has no much support and documentation like Ubuntu. It was a little hard to learn the Xandros concepts, but you can get if you research a lot. Be patient.

Other Thoughts: I use this machine as my file server at home and media server to broadcast my videos, MP3 and photos to my PS3.

At very first begin I got a little confused with Xandros OS, a Debian derivate OS which was developed by Corel (yes, same Corel Draw!!) and I had to learn how things work on this OS. The first challenge was turn off the easy mode to the advanced mode. After that I had to update some packages, so, I noticed that has no repositories specific for EBXB202. So, more research and I got the repositories to be able to install Mediatomb, MySql, SSH, and update Samba. I also updated the system to boot on advanced mode forever and start on boot the VNC server to allow me to remote control from my personal laptop.

Of course, in this meantime, I had to reinstall at least 3 times. The recovery process is really simple and fast, the annoying part is to reinstall everything again and again.

Everything is working fine and stable with Xandros. I didn't reboot more than 3 months.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Box

Pros: Small Form Factor, Low Power consumption, Upgradable, Easy to use. I bought this after my main home office PC kicked the bucket. Loaded Windows 7 Ultimate on it and it runs great. Plan on upgrading the RAM and HDD when I get the money. As long as you don't plan on doing any gaming on this it is a perfect choice PC.

Running Win7 I had Firefox with 12 tabs open while installing apps and it was taxing the CPU but not slowing down my work to much. Full Screen Youtube has some hiccups but overall it is great.

I am able to leave this on 24/7 with no worries, will probably pay for itself soon enough, last PC was an Athlon 64 X2 3800+, so this is a great upgrade/downgrade.

Cons: Slow, but what do you expect, I don't want a workhorse. Keyboard and Mouse aren't that great, used a different mouse but am using the keyboard not to happy with it, it is like a laptop Keyboard, I will be upgrading eventually.

Used the Linux OS for a day before I reloaded it, not very user friendly, would recommend upgrading to something else, Win7 runs better/faster than the default OS.

After using it for a couple weeks, I am still of the same mind, I noticed the slowness of it more but am still very happy with the purchase, it still does everything my old PC did just take a few seconds longer.

Other Thoughts: Even though it is slow it is an excellent product, Asus out did themselves again, they never let me down. I would recommend installing Win7 from a USB key, directions are online and it is super easy. You cannot get better for the price. Love it.

If you need a cheap PC this is the best bet, out of the box it will do what you want, expecially if you install Windows. If you can afford it there may be a better EEE Box, or plan on upgrading the Ram,HDD, Mouse and Keyboard. Just keep in mind that you'll prolly spend more than a hundred bucks on that upgrade when you could of bought the newest model for the same price.

Accidentally wrote this review for the same box but the one with XP on it. Felt I should repost it on the one I actually bought.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat low end workstation

Pros: Small, quiet and low power consumption. Monitor mounting bracket. Runs Office 2003 apps without issue.

Cons: Wish it came with Windows XP Pro for the same price!

Other Thoughts: Use this in an manufacturing environment, I wanted something that did not require a lot of cooling. Utilized the monitor mounting bracket for a clean installation.

Asus has Windows XP and Windows 7 drivers available for this computer. Replaced Linux with XP Pro.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat system for the price

Pros: Bought this for a friends mom who uses it for basic browsing, word processing, finances etc. Works great, have had no complaints so far.

Cons: Had some issues at first setting up wireless, but haven't noticed any issues at all since then.

Other Thoughts: As a Newegg customer for years, I've learned to read the product specs and understanding the limitations of a $200 computer before I buy it, this is obviously not designed for intense computing

4 out of 5 eggsGreat to see Linux!

Pros: It is fantastic to find something that does not have some type of Microsoft window product preinstalled. As anybody in the field knows, MS is trying to force builders to sell the machines with their operating system which adds greatly to the cost. Linux is more than capable in these underpowered machines and saves you money in the long haul. I wish all machines were sold without preinstalled MS operating systems, then you can install what you want without paying the "Microsoft tax".

Cons: None for the price

Other Thoughts: A previous reviewer blamed Newegg for not having MS Windows preinstalled and this just shows how naive some people are. If you want to spend over $100 for software for a low end machine like this, go buy it and install it, nothing is stopping you. It's not Newegg's fault, this is the way the machine is sold. You should thank Newegg for offering something at this price point that doesn't have the typical overpriced Microsoft Operating System and bloatware installed that you DO pay for in the purchase price. Nothing is free, (besides Linux)!

4 out of 5 eggsGood for kids, sucks otherwise

Pros: Price!
Great interface for kids.

Cons: I have this for my kid, but if I needed it for something else- it is a terrible deal. You cannot add memory- this would void the warranty, you have to go to a service center for that!
Support is terrible. I got response to a simple question in about 2 weeks.
Comes without the Expressgate, you should install it on your own.
The software center is not configured, so there is nothing you can update or install.
It is on the slow side- I would advise if you need it for more than your kids pleasure to install EEBUNTU.
And ASUS clearly pushes you to install Windows.
Bottom line- if it is not for a kid (under 12)- don't waste your money! As a machine for a grown up I would give 1 star at best.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has only this as a Linux desktop? Please! This is truly disappointing- I have been Newegg customer for years, but now I think I will move to
They have decent service and much better choice.
And I think this is the last ASUS product I ever buy.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for those who dont NEED a computer

Pros: I got this for my grandmother after her other computer died, this is the greatest thing I could've gotten her. Built in wi-fi good hdd size for a common user.

Cons: The antenna can be kind of finicky, so if it falls back she loses connection.

Other Thoughts: The cons isn't a problem for me since she lives with us but if you're getting this for an older user thats further away I would suggest either having this on a wired connection or telling them about the antenna.
