3 out of 5 eggsWorth the price

Pros: Good value. I'm using it as a DVR viewer and it's the perfect size and best price.

Cons: Original linux distro is very slow and limited. Pretty sure you are meant to install a real OS. F9 doesn't work although the manual says it should.

Had trouble installing XP. Something about a hal.dll error I couldn't figure out. Ended up installing Ubuntu, but Ubuntu was just really slow and I couldn't find a linux DVR viewer.

Ended up with Windows 7 Starter Edition. Now it works perfectly except for this high pitched drone. Luckily the computer is for my parents who already partially deaf to high pitch noises.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for basic internet and email use.

Pros: Small and compact. Can mount on back of monitor. Works better with Windows 7. It's a great little pc for basic internet, email, and MS office use. Dont expect this to be some powerhouse computer.

Cons: A little slow with Windows 7, but upgraded memory to 2GB and works much better.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good

Pros: very fast
cool working
plug and play
cheap
slim and small, perfect for office solutions

Cons: noting so far

Other Thoughts: do not waste your time for usb boots.
just get a external cd/dvd reader ($19.00) than get a windows xp pro cd and plug in to this thats it. bios boots from cd/dvd reader first. format the harddisk, install the windows xp.. than watch this little boy.. smooth, cool and fast, runs perfect for office

1 out of 5 eggsdo not buy!

Pros: its comes with everything except the monitor, ultra compact, Ok price for a barebones set up.

Cons: The OS it comes with is Express Gate linux, thats it. This is there 2.0 vs. There is NO Support for this software or a CD. I Called tech support many times. The system is extremely Slow. I Added 2 more gigs of ram and it made a small improvement but not enough.......

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to use as a Kiosk for guests. I have used express gate on a netbook but this version has NO support for it or a CD to reinstall. It does come with a driver CD for windows OS... This particular model is sold through ASUS commercial site as a commercial product for institutions with NO Available Support. Inorder to keep from dealing with RMA and shipping i figured out a way to turn Ubuntu 10.04 into KIOSK mode but was a pain and i purchased a small SSD to speed things up.....ASUS & Newegg thanks for making this a purchase that i have regret.

4 out of 5 eggsbudget mini PC

Pros: price, power consumption, size, nice design

Cons: Original OS is useless. Installed Ubuntu, which works fine (Ok, slow, but it works). In order to boot from USB I had to disconnect HDD and then, after booting to reconnect HDD. I.e. device did not function as supposed.

Other Thoughts: Video only allows 3:4 resolution, I would go for something a little bit more expensive but capable to support more resolutions and something not freezing with youtube video.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Complement to my Eee Netbooks

Pros: Bought to make my first departure from MS Win OS. Mint 11 loaded easily! Wasn't too difficult to get this machine up and running even with no previous Linux experience. Eee Box has the usual great ASUS build quality. Virtually dead quiet. Added wireless desktop to make a clutter free install, using the supplied VESA mount. USB ports on several sides make it convenient to install accessories.

Cons: The supplied and Asus web site documentation is severely lacking. A little bit of a challenge to open the box to upgrade the memory.

Other Thoughts: I have 2 Asus Eee 1000Hx netbooks. This product is a natural extension of the versatility of the Atom platform to perform run of the mill computer tasks. I plan to do a Linux install on my old desktop and give it to one of my kids!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, Inexpensive Ubuntu Box

Pros: - Inexpensive
- Ubuntu easily installs (10.04 LTS)
- Free from MS Windows!
- Cleanly mounts on back of monitor for clutter-free installation
- Performance more than sufficient for web surfing, e-mail, Skype, documents, etc. Customers should not expect 3D gaming top performance...

Cons: - Existing Linux installation is slow and not very effective. I recommend replacing this with your favorite OS immediately.

Other Thoughts: I have always been pleased with my purchases of ASUS hardware. This unit is no exception.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST BANG FOR $$$

Pros: Depends on your reason for purchase:
1: Netbox, tv stream box, social media machine, ect. - The EEElinux OS shipped with unit is great for streaming HULU, Youtube, checking your facebook, and general web surfing. It boots extremely fast, and its so quiet you cant even tell its running

2: Ubuntu overhaul - i used a flash drive and installed ubuntu netbook remix on this machine. runs perfect, not as quick to boot, but that is a fair trade off because with ubuntu you can do so much more.

Overall this is a great buy for the linux lover. I bought this one for a customer to run a matrix display for their camera system on, i now plan to buy myself one!!

Cons: with almost all new pc's there is a lack of basic documentation. there is a sheet that shows your basic connections, but nothing on any technical workings. I will let you know that in order to reach the boot options to boot from a USB drive you must push f8 during start up, even if USB is the first boot option in the bios.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeds expectations

Pros: Good build quality. Very quiet. Two memory slots. Added 2G Kingston RAM to bring up to 3G. (Data suggests a max. of 4G). Care required in opening the case, but not overly difficult (Google for instructions). Installed Ubuntu 11.04 via USB, with no problems. Ubuntu reports 2 processors, haven't determined if it really has two. Running Squeezebox server, with external USB disk. Works great.

Cons: Installed Expressgate software. Easily overwritten though. Poor technical documentation, even on the ASUS site. Surprising for a product that is primarily of interest to tech savvy folks. It ought to be easier to determine the memory capacity, keys to access boot options etc. The ASUS docs are geared to consumers.

Other Thoughts: Not using it for video, so no opinion on that. Otherwise, very satisfactory experience.
