5 out of 5 eggsASUS never disappoints

Pros: First computer I bought when I moved out was an ASUS. Got robbed, still chose ASUS for my second computer. After close to 5 years now, I've decided to upgrade my computer so that it would be in par with today's necessary features, such as video editing, music making and video gaming. My original thought was to aim for an iMac, 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB Serial ATA Drive, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB GDDR5. It would have come close to 3,000$ including shipping, handling and taxes. People suggested I look online for computers, and thoroughly thought about it. I've been with a PC all my life and things have been going great, always knew how to deal with my computer problems on my own.

Installed in just a few minutes, runs great and at an incredible speed! I have to get used to the computer being super quiet, the fans are barely heard. Would definitely recommend this to the average computer user. For above average, maybe a few tweaks around the graphic card and extra volta

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Other than the graphic card not being the best one out there, it's not the worst one either. I mainly grabbed this computer for its specifics, I would mainly use it for video editing and music making. Gaming as well, but the games I play don't require insane graphics processing.

5 out of 5 eggsAll smiles

Pros: Price/Value
Massive computing power (especially when you enable hyperthreading)
16 GB RAM

Cons: Asus should replace the 5400 RPM harddrive with an SSD (or a faster SATA drive).

Other Thoughts: This system comes with a separate "entry level" Nvidia graphics card. IMHO.. unless one is using the computer as a video gaming rig, the built-in Intel HD 4000 graphics card is more than sufficient. I was so pleased with the performance of the Intel graphics card; I actually removed the Nvidia card and placed it into one of my older computers (which benefited from utilizing the discrete Nvidia card).

I am very pleased. Not only do I have a top of the line new pc, I was also able to use some of its "spare" parts to upgrade another computer.

1 out of 5 eggsI take back what I said - this is a nightmare

Pros: All the same.

Cons: I had believed that my wireless problems had been resolved after my last review. However, they quickly resurfaced. I tried buying a new router. That didn't work. I tried a USB wireless dongle. No luck. I am consistently getting between 0.1 and 0.5 mbps, while on my laptop I get about 15, minimum. I called Asus technical support. What a scam. All they did was try to sell me some plan of some sort. So I finally went to my last resort: I reinstalled windows. I downloaded the drivers for the CM6870 on my laptop and used an external hdd to bring them to my desktop. It won't even let me install the drivers. This is a complete disaster. I have owned and worked on many, many computers - at home and at work - and have never had anything this frustrating.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your wireless card. Have you tried disabling the wireless card and tried downloading the software from the USB dongle? Have you tried taking your router and bringing it closer to your desktop to see if that makes a difference?

If you have any questions or comments, you can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com. Asus strives to meet and exceeds our customer expectations within our warranty policy. Please reply with reference# C1042-1490

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Computer

Pros: From out of package, 10 minutes until windows was completely satisfied with setup. After all updates were done via windows update, the startup time from power to windows login - 37 seconds. My work computer can take up to 20 minutes to start.

This is now my Third Asus computer, 2 being laptops (gaming), 1 this desktop. Ive been holding off on a good desktop until this came around, all the right specs. Can handle Diablo 3 with no issues.

Hard drives are not partitioned like Asus normally does. 1 TB HD for OS, 1 TB HD for space.
Video is 2 GB dedicated and utilizes additional 2 GB system memory.
Not loaded with bloatware, some Asus programs, but are really nice for average users.
Specs are pretty much what the other review states.
USB 3.0, 4x ports, 2 front 2 rear. Plenty of USB ports period!
Sleek design, not to fancy, but functional, the tray on top is good for external drives.

Cons: 5400 rpm on HD's.
300W power supply, kinda worried about this but so far this is not an issue.
Not as quite as it says but not noisy either.
Power button is weird, but functional - also too close to, and identical to blu-ray bay button.

Other Thoughts: I have had laptops that have been able to outperform any of my coworkers desktops for the past 10 years. The cost of desktops have been too much for these specs (Just look at the other newegg computers with these specs).

I have been a Asus customer for 5 years now, never had an issue, excellent customer service, quick response and quick repairs.
I have heard of complaints reading other reviews, but understand that when people have issues, they are already frustrated and take it out on whoever they can.

Asus has never done me wrong, the few issues I have had, have been taken care of either over the phone, or shipped to asus support team.

4 out of 5 eggsAffordable midtower

Pros: For what you pay, you get a lot packed inside. The machine runs resource intensive programs with ease. Tower is nice and quiet. While some may think it's boring looking, I like the sleek, minimal design. The inclusion of 4 USB 3.0 ports is a welcome feature. Front facing USB and card readers are convenient. Quick boot, consistent performance.

Windows Experience Index results:
Base score - 5.1/7.9
Processor - 7.7/7.9
Memory (RAM) - 7.8/7.9
Graphics - 5.1/7.9
Gaming Graphics - 6.5/7.9
Primary Hard Disk - 5.9/7.9

Cons: Wireless-N card was useless. I got a spotty low signal and pages loaded like they were stuck in mud. Downloads were also painfully slow. I installd a $25 300mbs card from [wow NewEgg won't allow me to say the name of the store in my review] and now have full bars and lightening fast speeds.

The HDMI out didn't work at first. Somehow, likely through Windows update, the problem resolved itself. It was still extremely frustrating.

Only two PCI slots.

No firewire or esata.
