2 out of 5 eggsLocks up regularly

Pros: Fast computer, many options for disk configuration and expansion.

Cons: I've found this computer will randomly lock up - meaning suddenly, completely unable to do ANYTHING. Hard boot is the only option. This can be anywhere from once a week to several times a day, and often happens when there is no activity (by user) for several hours. Or it can be in the middle of doing anything.

I have it configured for RAID-0, and the implementation of this on board is not good. Often the system APPEARS to have hung, as above, for 30 seconds or more, and from what I can tell, this is due to extended resource hogging by the disk controller as it repairs the drives. On 1.5 TB drives, the mirroring repair takes over 24 hours, and it has to be done each time the system is rebooted from lock up. Since lockup can happen frequently, it is pretty much continuously in this state.

I can not, and would not, recommend this computer.

Another con: No hard reset button. In fact, no reset pin on the motherboard (that is designed for connection to a reset button). So you have to do a power cycle to reset, which is of course more damaging, potentially, to the hardware.

Other Thoughts: This computer was quite a disappointment, as I generally like ASUS products. I did not realize the problems with the hardware were in fact caused by the base hardware for some time, as I was setting up various things attached.

But I noticed the first crash within just a day or two of unboxing, and at this point, it is clear that not only does it have this problem, which could be just this unit, but also a very poor RAID implementation, which is almost certainly endemic to the model, and probably a number of ASUS motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this computer

Pros: this machine was purchased as a work PC for me, I work with gigantic excel files and do a lot of work online.

It can support dual monitors right out of the box, most people know this but HDMI and DVI cannot be ran together, so if you pick this up expecting it to support 3 monitors, it won't work.

The machine is fast, gets everything I need done.

Cons: Nothing related to the machine itself.

Maybe startup time is slightly slow although its really fast in comparison to other machines.

Other Thoughts: Overall its worth the money, it performs great, haven't had any issues with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine!

Pros: Price, processor, 16gb memory and Windows 7.

Cons: Very small PSU (need bigger for upgrades), Slow HDD.

Other Thoughts: Great machine and super price for the casual user. Put in a SSD, bigger PSU and a video card and you really have something. Bought this for a family member that does not game and needs a good general machine. They were coming from XP so Win 7 is not a problem for them. I have Windows 8 and love it but some people can't get over the start screen and the apps thing. Hate all the bloatware on store bought computers but this one wasn't too bad. My advice is remove it all. All in all a great machine for the buck!

5 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck

Pros: This thing is sweet, disregard all of the trolls posting about it. Real easy for someone who wants to make a monsterous gaming PC but not building it themself. A few things need replacing to make this a gaming PC but what's in there already is there for its purpose. I put a 750w corsair power supply along with a NVIDIA 660 gtx graphics card and this computer games flawlessly! For example, playing Battlfield 3 on a full server I'm pulling in 120-200 capped frames per second. Could not be more impressed! Totally worth the money, spent a little over $1,000 to make this one hell of a computer. Prepared for Battlefield 4 baby!

Cons: Small power supply but wasn't too much of a problem

3 out of 5 eggsLed light is flashing all day

Pros: paid for standard shipping- arrived in two days. Quiet, WIFI works fine, even though router is on other side of house. Seems pretty fast. Windows experience rating was : Processor 7.7, Memory 7.7, graphics 6.5, Hard disk 5.9

Cons: Crashed to black screen installing print driver- had to do factory re-install. I updated BIOS from 0408 to 0708- seems to be more stable now, but after the unit has been idle for an hour or so, the Power on LED light will blink on and off all day and night until I hit the space bar to wake it up. Not sure if this is normal-- ASUS tech help has been really poor, not sure if the person I've been working with really speaks English. Finally told me to send unit back- I just want to find out how to fix flashing LED. could it be the Q fan? Also CD door has to be opened by control panel, pushing on switch doesn't seem to work. Anyone else have these problems?

Other Thoughts: when I send a query to tech help I have to wait until the next day or over the weekend for a very short answer. Asus needs a better web site to find answers.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

The blinking LED on your computer is normal. It is normal behavior for the LED to blink on and off when the system is in standby/sleep modes. All of the newer Asus motherboards do this, so don’t worry, nothing is wrong. If the LED is blinking when you are using the computer and it’s NOT in sleep, then we might have a problem, though. If you have any questions, or any further concerns, please feel free to e-mail me at I’ll be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Best Regards,

4 out of 5 eggsShe's a fast machine

Pros: Quiet, well-performing machine with tons of overhead. Attractive and conveniently placed port center (CF, USB 2/3, CD, MS PRO, microphone, headphone). Very pleasant setup and operation.

Cons: The wifi will not maintain a connection and seems to interfere with my other wifi-connected systems, making it necessary to disable wireless and locate the machine near the router.

Other Thoughts: As a pro user, I'm very pleased with the performance of this machine. I have it setup as a Windows Media Center, connected to an HD HOMERUN dual tuner, which gets its signals from free, over-the-air broadcasts. It's a backup to my Tivo, recording a couple dozen shows a week. I haven't had any performance issue; CPU and memory usage levels stay very low when running multiple browser tabs, Office and Media Center concurrently. I have not investigated the wifi issues, but disabling it and using wired networking eliminated connectivity issues that had previous occurred network-wide using the ASUS's wireless networking.
