1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: sleek hardware

Cons: 1. Machine cannot run any 64-bit os, despite the CPU is capable of supporting it.

2. Difficult to boot from USB in UEFI mode because the machine does not support x64

Other Thoughts: i would not recommend wasting money on this

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dan,

This unit comes with Linux Ubuntu 12.04. You should be able to install a 64-bit OS such as Windows 7 or 8. Did you try clean install of the OS? For questions, comments or concerns, please contact me at cl-celeste@asus.com and in and include case#2917956 in the subject line. ASUS Customer Loyalty is here to listen and respond to our customers' needs and to help provide you with a positive ASUS experience.

4 out of 5 eggsI like it, after mods...

Pros: Small, light, low power consumption, quiet

Cons: Included mouse and keyboard use half of the 4 available USB ports which are all located on the front of the machine. Ubuntu 12.04 worked well out of the box on big screen TV but after installing recommended software updates Big screen resolutions were not possible. Will not run 64 bit operating systems even though it's supposed to have a 64 bit processor.

Other Thoughts: @ $229 and free shipping the price was right. Amazingly I ordered one morning and it was delivered the next afternoon. Ubuntu worked good on my 47"Visio TV until I updated the OS software as recommended. Then it would no longer work at widescreen resolutions. I had to do a f9 restore and start over. I ended up replacing the puny 32GB ssd with a 120 GB ssd I had laying around, I also installed windows 7 Home Premium that I had handy. The unit comes with a CD containing WIn 7 drivers and performs adequately running Windows 7 with a decent SSD, I don't recommend using a standard HDD unless you are used to working with slow machines, The difference in performance between HDD and SSD on this unit are astounding. Although the unit has a 64 bit processor it will not run 64 bit versions of Windows. I read another review that said it will not run 64 bit versions of Ubuntu either. I don't mind, the machine is performing well and it was cheap. The only 4 USB ports are all on the front and if you use the included keyboard and mouse you only have two left for a printer and an external drive perhaps. I'm using a wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo which frees up one more USB port for possibly a web cam. With the unit mounted on the back of a monitor all wires are out of sight but with it on the stand for vertical use or flat on a desktop you end up with a bunch of wires coming out of both ends which gives a cluttered/untidy look to an otherwise good looking little machine. Overall it's a decent little machine for basic computing needs after a few tweaks. You get what you pay for. And for $229 you don't get much these days.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, quiet. Connected to TV to stream from internet. So far it has done a nice job at high resolution.

Cons: Has a 64-bit processor but comes with 32-bit Ubuntu.

Other Thoughts: Probably not a good gaming system but does ok for what I use it for.
