can this computer run adobe flash,photoshop,and some sort of video editing software?

Accepted Answer

The Core2Duo E8400 processor is powerful enough for these applications. 2GB of memory may not be enough for video editing, so upgrade to 4GB (dual stick DDR2, $50). I would highly recommend a NVIDIA graphics card, Like the EVGA GT210 ($40), the on-board video will take up system memory and in general will lag on supporting Flash and Photoshop. Video Editing, depending on the scope of your project, may need a bigger hard drive... A faster one would be better. Hope that helps.

On a side note: My DC7900 arrived with a fried sound board, no audio at all. I would have sent it back for a replacement, but I had already upgraded the memory, hard-drive and graphics cards and installed all software, So I really didn't feel like doing it again. I would highly recommend testing everything on the machine before install software.

Is the DVD drive read only, or does it burn CD/DVDs too?

I purchased this computer from newegg and the DVD drive is read only. The computer came with CDBurnerXP installed and the program reports no compatable drives.

the dc7900 hp spec sheet says it can take up to 16gb standard non ecc simms is this really possible with this device?

The spec sheet that I downloaded states a maximum of 8GB of RAM in 4 slots (each dual channel capable). I bought 2 2GB modules on an auction (HYMP125U64CP8-S6) and now have 6GB in the computer. I replaced the Seagate 160 GB hard drive with a WDC 500GB Black edition purchased from Newegg on sale a while back. I replaced the DVD ROM with a Lite-On DVD burner (also from Newegg). The machine ran fine with Win 7 64 Pro with only 2GB while I was installing software, but will run much better with 4, 6 or 8GB. Both my machines were extremely clean on the inside. Only 1 was missing 1 of the 4 rubber feet if you were to lay the machine horizontal. The long pole will be the PSU. It's custom.

Does this computer have wifi capability? I need it in an area that I cannot run cables.

It doesn't have wi-fi built-in, but you can add it via a USB dongle or a PCI wifi card.

DO we have to purchase a wireless card? The only option it gives us is to connect using broadband.

The computer does not come with any wireless hardware. I guess you refer to Wi-Fi capabilities. You can add a USB wireless adapter or a PCI wireless adapter with a short mounting plate. Some PCI wireless adapters in the market provide both the standard and short mounting plate.

Exactly how do you open the case to upgrade the memory?

There are two buttons; one recessed on each side near the front of the computer. If you push them in at the same time the top will spring backwards. The top will slide back off the computer. The memory slots are in the center of the computer. Typically, the first and third slots have memory installed.

I have one on the way. How powerful is the power supply (240 or 365W)?
Have you upgraded the video card with a low profile PCIe one? if so which one? I want to improve the video quality with DVI instead of VGA, I do not plan on playing any game.

The power supply is 240W, I added HD6450, it works well w/o gaming. You can get HDMI with audio or DVI output, VGA output still works if it is needed.

Carefully check all the hardware when you receive the PC, the first one I received was having a defective network port, got a replacement.

By the way, I'm some disappointed with the CS from newEgg :(

Do these come with Ethernet cards or wireless cards to connect to our network?

I'l bought 3 of these and they all came with ethernet only!  This is a basic workhorse PC.  The E8400 3.0g processor ROCKS, especially at this price.    More RAM would be nice once you load down the machine!

I ordered two of these. Both have two USB ports on the front and six on the rear. Note the the two computers were not configured exactly alike in all respects, but regarding USB ports, they were uniform.
