2 out of 5 eggsPoor service

Pros: This TV had an excellent picture for games and movies while it was still working.

Cons: Stopped working suddenly less than 2 years after purchase. Panasonic support is very very poor. Parts were no longer available or discontinued although they will not tell you such. Instead they tell you that you can pay for the parts and they will let you know when the parts will be available.... which is never.

Other customers with similar models also had similar issues per the local TV repair shop.

Would avoid Panasonic televisions unless you plan on only keeping your TV up until the warranty runs out. They seem to discontinue service and parts for older models very quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing tuner

Pros: Very sharp pictures. I cheaped out and didnt get the higher contrast one, but this one still looks really good. Maybe the other one would be better. The tuner is amazing. I plugged in cable and set to scan. The scan took maybe 15 mins, but picked up a zillion channels! I have an older viera that couldn't get half as many channels. Can't say much on the audio, since i don't really care too much about it.

Cons: Wish it was bigger. This was the best deal i could find on plasmas. I know there are other brands that go for less, but i wanted to go with an established brand. I've also seen 46" LCD's go for less, but was concerned with viewing angle and if the black color was dark enough.

Other Thoughts: ATI delivery went smoothly. They brought it to my front door steps and showed me how to unbox it. They even waited while i opened it to make sure there was no damamges. Not that it helps, since ATI does not warrenty the item if damaged, even during delivery. I was tempted to pay the extra bit for white glove service, since they plug it in and confirm the item works. Luckily there were no issues.

It really helped to have someone with me to carry it up my stairs and unpack it. It's not heavy at all, but the box is pretty big.

Someone from ATI called me 2 days before the scheduled delivery to confirm and then to ask if i wanted it a day early. Overall, it worked out very nicely.

5 out of 5 eggsPanasonic is Best Of Breed, Fries is cheaper

Pros: Panasonic has top image quality and it's 720p looks like alot of other 1080p's. This 1080p is better than all except Pioneer.

Cons: You can get this same exact model at Fries in Sacramento for $850 as of today Jan 28

5 out of 5 eggsThe Love of my Life...

Pros: Absolutely stunning picture that only gets better when calibrated(although the vivid setting can be near blinding). Blu-ray and games are just like being there, and the black and color ratios leave absolutely nothing to be desires. Also, when put on the "cinema" setting and tweaking the brightness a little, the temperature on this baby is near perfect. Has anyone mentioned the fact that it also has an SD card slot for easy digital camera viewing...Enough said!

Cons: In reference to some other posts, it is indeed a disappointment that Component cables will only output 720p. However, this is not a drawback or con of the Panasonic brand, but merely the limitations of Component bandwidth. If you want full HD audio and video you have to use HDMI. Also, if you have any direct sunlight on the screen it will inhibit viewing, but this is true of every TV in history(including lcd).

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately for the Egg, I work in Home Theater at a popular retail store...so I was all but forced to buy it through them rather than this glorious site. Having said that, this is by far the best television I have ever owned. If it weren't for the fact that I've had my girlfriend longer than this set, and the fact that she was ALL FOR buying it, this TV and I would be married by now. P.S. As mentioned many times, for those of you in need of a VGA slot, the pz85u meets your needs in a slightly better set. Panasonic and Newegg Rule!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Absolutely Great TV. I looked around at a bunch of TV's before ordering from Newegg. It was the best deal for the lowest price and the quality is exceptional.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with this TV and with free shipping from Newegg, it was here in 3 days.

Cons: No VGA or DVI ports so if your going to be using it as a monitor, you need to get a HDMI to DVI cable.

4 out of 5 eggsGimped inputs

Pros: On the upside, the picture is downright gorgeous. The black levels are about as good as it gets, the colors really pop, there's little to no glare, the picture is amazingly smooth.... just about everything about the picture is awesome. Though what else would you expect from a plasma, and one from Panasonic at that?

Cons: There seems to be a bit of red drift. That is, the colors have are a bit more red than they should be. It's not very noticeable and seemed to go away once I calibrated it properly. Still, just thought I should mention it.

The inputs:

My first gripe about them is that there's not enough of them. There isn't a VGA input, which isn't an absolute necessity but should be standard in this day and age, especially considering similarly priced LCDs have one standard.

Technically there are three HDMI ports, but one of them is front mounted. Luckily I don't need the third one (yet), but I would find it EXTREMELY unsightly to have anything permanently connected to it.

Secondly, this TV won't accept 1080p signals over component; it only goes up to 1080i/720p. If you have an older Xbox 360, like me, it can be quite an annoyance. This also applies to Panasonic's other models, like the TH-42PZ85U. For that matter, the same goes for to the VGA ports on those other models.

Other Thoughts: The problems with the inputs really bother me quite a bit. I don't get why Panasonic, in their eternal wisdom, wouldn't include a VGA port, wouldn't allow a 1080p display to accept 1080p signals from component (or over VGA on models with VGA ports) when they're perfectly capable of accepting such signals, and why, after gimping the other inputs, they'd only include two rear-mounted HDMI ports.

I expect most people will never have to worry about this. Heck, I don't really have to worry about the problems with the inputs. But it's still quite an annoyance, especially when you consider LCDs and other plasmas have all this.

All that said, the picture quality is the overriding factor here. Yeah, this isn't a Kuro plasma... but it's still head and shoulders above virtually any LCD on the market, especially anything at this price point. If the input limitations aren't a deal breaker, then by all means buy this TV. It's just downright gorgeous and you won't regret it.

4 out of 5 eggsReally nice display

Pros: Love this Plasma for everything except the sound. Panasonic really knows how to build them. The only other drawback is mounting this thing. Still, I got a great price on Newegg for this. It was marked down almost 800.00 (I'll let you do the math) and shipping was free. It arrived in great condition and really fast.

Cons: Sound is a bit guttural at times.

Other Thoughts: The menu is pretty good and paired with a Panasonic bluray player - the VIERA Link eliminated the need for another controller lying around.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: High-quality product, great picture. The "Justify" (SmartStretch) mode allows you to watch non-HD programming full screen - it's much more watchable than standard "stretch" mode.

Cons: A few minor gripes:

The audio output is fixed, not controllable with the TV's volume level.

No "show when muted" option for Closed Captioning.

Other Thoughts: The factory default Picture pre-set is pretty lame. The image really improved when I switched to the pre-set called "Cinema".

5 out of 5 eggsSplended TV

Pros: Blow away any big screen LCD TVs. Clarity, color and pure black level are superb.

Cons: Limited number of connection jacks. Piece of garbage remote control.
