4 out of 5 eggsSufficient

Pros: -It works. It seems to cool the room decently, even when it's 97 degrees outside.

-Has rollers

-I haven't had to empty any water... but I live in the Northwest where humidity isn't a problem.

Cons: -Heavy/Handles for carrying are not that useful. I'd prefer better carrying handles. This may be too heavy for 1 person, if you cannot easily carry 50 pounds.

-It could be colder (but it's sufficient.... you just have to turn it on before it gets above 75 degrees)

-Window seal plastic is useless. I made a seal with the card board box that it was shipped in, and sealed my window with 3M good quality clear shipping tape.

Other Thoughts: -Newegg removed my prior review. Whatever works for them.

-The exhaust hose is not insulated, so I used bubble wrap (about 3-4 layers of the 1-2 inch bubbles) to insulate it. This is a MUST if you are serious about not having heat come back into the room. If you are complaining that it's not cold enough, you must do this first.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Cools the room very well!

Cons: A little loud, in high humidity the water buildup can be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I'm cooling a 14X16 foot well-insulated room with this unit. If it's 90 outside (and high 80s in the room), it can cool the room down to about 69 very quickly and maintain that temperature. This room has a receiver (which generates a lot of heat), two computers, two laser printers, and a file server, and it still cools it without a problem.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great so far!

Pros: I got this for my garage, which gets hot and humid (I live in Kansas), and the wall unit barely cools the space - and does very little about the humidity. So I wanted to give this a try for its dehumidification aspect. On the few days that have been warm enough to run it this spring, it's done a fantastic job of both cooling the whole 2-car garage and really drying the air.

Cons: Funky auto controls. I can't figure out how to turn off the fan when it's on auto; runs all the time. And the compressor doesn't seem to come on when the set temp suggests it should. Hm. So I've been just going to the Cool setting when I really want it to run.

Other Thoughts: Great deal when it's on sale!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great, I bought this for an attached room without any heat/air. Although the room is small (Approx 12x6) i have ALLOT of computer equipment in this room (server, desktop, 2 laser printers, hubs, routers, etc.). It takes about an hour to drop 10 degrees from 85 to 75 mid day. Works allot better at night without the hot summer day adding to the problem. Still, it was the perfect solution for a room without windows. I simply cut a hole in the outer wall and boom, cool air!

Cons: It is loud enough on high but not terrible. Generally i turn it off when im on the phone, other than that hey it's an Air Conditioner.

Granted the hose is not insulated, but i just don't think it's giving back all that much into the room.

A minor problem is there is no way to easily clean the "grill" on the intake for the hot side (Condenser?) but as for the cold side (Evaporator?) this is no problem. (Im a heavy smoker)

The only real problem i have had is the front panel power on/off button quit working about a year in. It's kinda cheap anyway, but hey, i just use the remote. It would have been better if the front panel buttons were of a more moderate quality.

Last season my central A/C was on the blink and it was all alone in this room with no "external" help so when the humidity was high it quickly filled with water and shut off. Last year i had to empty the thing twice a day, and it got to be a REAL hassle. This year however, not once, now that the central A/C is back.

Other Thoughts: Look it's a cheap portable unit. Quite frankly i didn't expect it to last this long, and it appears it will survive the year with miles to go. If the thing dies today, i'd replace it with the same thing. I have treated this like a cheap bench and it's covered with crud and still pumps right along, and cools the room. Unless you want to go with a split system your basically looking at a cheap something, this has it's problems, but has lasted longer than expected, and therefore

2 out of 5 eggsUm... does this thing work?

Pros: It does put out cold air. Very high energy efficiency rating.

Cons: Oh my.. I have to admit, it does try, but the fact that it has only an exhaust hose is what kills it. It puts a large vacuum on whatever room you have it in. That pulls hotter air from outside the room and in effect, increases the heat load on the air conditioner and it just can't keep up. GET THE DUAL HOSE UNITS!

Other Thoughts: I've worked with Sunpentown about this and we've come to the conclusion that I should have bought the WA-1340DE, WA-1140DE or the WA-9040DE. All of these are dual hose units. They work effectively up to an outside temp of about 90F, after that they lose their energy efficiency. BUT if it gets above 90F, you could just pull the intake hose off, plug up the hole in the window kit, and use it like a standard single hose unit. GET A DUAL HOSE UNIT!

2 out of 5 eggsQuite unimpressed

Pros: Can't think of any.

Cons: Waaay under-rated, this is probably only about 4000BTU. When it is 95 outside the best this will do is 82 inside. House has R42 ceiling, R28 x 6" walls.

The foam window seal is a joke. Totally useless to hold the exhaust duct. I had to make one from wood.

The caster wheels are too small for easy moving on carpet. I have to partially lift it to move it anywhere.

Other Thoughts: Definitely NOT worth the money. It is a little noisy but not overly so. There is nowhere to store the remote and it never remembers the last settings when you turn it on.

I am quite disappointed with this unit. I expected much more from something that cost me $429 including shipping. NewEgg should really look at validating the ratings of these things.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good for price

Pros: *sort of portable (you need to hook the vent to a sealed window)
*it's on wheels
*remote control for the uber lazy
*good price vs power

Cons: *no where near the effectiveness of a 12000 BTU window unit (probably about 1/2)
*loud (but it's a pleasing jet engine loud, not like a loose part/rattly loud like some window units)
*HEAVY
*the exhaust tube is totally uninsulated. You will have to fix that (which is very easy)

Other Thoughts: Cools my 250 sq foot space from 90 degrees to 85 degrees on maximum setting (note that I don't have very good insulation though). Then I went to home depot and got some fiberglass/mylar vent insulation (about 10 bucks) to put around the vent hosing, which helped the cooling a lot.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well in my home

Pros: Works very well in my 150 sq. foot sunroom (for cooling. I do not use the heater).

I find it to be an attractive unit.

On wheels, so easy to move around.

I have a permanent drain, so cannot comment on emptying the water collection pan.

Cons: Noisy, but not more than expected.

Heavy, but it is on wheels.

***You MUST insultate the exhaust tube to really get good efficiency out of it.

Other Thoughts: I have owned the Sunpentown WA-1230E for a little over one year and am, for the most part, happy with the purchase. I have taken special measures to insure better performance and would recommend that others consider doing the same.

My unit sits in a sunroom that gets a considerable amount of sunlight and can get overly warm in the summer months. My central air does not have a conduit going to the sunroom (aprox. 150 sq. feet). I don't care for the automatic mode (which cools to 75 degrees and constantly runs the fan), so I set it to manual mode and it cools the space to a chilly 72 degrees (ahhhh, yes.).

The AC also does a fine job of dehumidifying the space. The remote control works from our kitchen (15 feet away).

I have a permanent port going through my wall, to exhaust the unit. I insulated the part of the exhaust tube which goes from the unit to the wall (THIS MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE).

It is a little noisy, but attractive. I give it 4 stars.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: portability , self contained condensate container and evaporator. Sufficient cooling for its BTU rating

Cons: exhaust tube gets really hot and it isn't insulated, that can't help the cooling situation.

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers don't understand A/C sizing or maybe their unit is bad or not installed correctly. This thing works great. But at 12000 BTU's, It can't work miracles. Check out some some informational web sites to understand your cooling needs.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat A/C

Pros: Really good cooling/heating options and clear to read installation instructions. I installed it in a 18'X24' insulated shop that reaches temps above 100 degrees and the unit will bring it down to 75-80 depending how cool I set the thermostat. (Maybe cooler but I have not tried to see how cool I can get it.)

Cons: During automatic mode (when unit turns cooling/heating on and off based on temp) the fan is always running. Really heavy!
