Simply Excellent 07/02/2008
This review is from: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 100243L
Pros:
I was lucky enough to get two of these on the day of release.
In Crossfire the cards perform flawlessly (load the hotfix driver set from support at ATI).
I have seen performance comparable to my "old" Triple-SLI set up using 8800 GTXs.
The big plus is in the value these cards represent. Two cards will give nearly the same performance as an nvidia 280, for less money currently. They surely out do anything below the 280.
I have never owned any ATI products before and I am very impressed by the image quality and overall performance. I mainly play fast FPS games and these cards are the ticket. I have been able to play just about every game at maximum settings, but I haven't had them long enough to try every game or every AA value yet. (and I could care less about Crysis)
Cons:
Hot.
You'll need to adjust the fan speed manually. You can find out how via the CCC.....look on Hard|OCP or Guru3D forums or wait for familiar utilities to be updated. I was able to lower idle temps to 45C and load to 70C by simple adjustments.
Overall Review:
Excellent price for performance.
Essential bundle. I saw somewhere that Sapphire was going to include 2GB USB drives in the release bundle, but I got stiffed apparently!!! (not that it matters)
This is an outstanding GPU and I expect it will get better as drivers mature.
