Excellent HTPC Case with Lousy LCD display 11/04/2008
This review is from: Antec Aluminum Veris Fusion Black 430 Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case with IR receiver
Pros:
Excellent build quality, lot of features, comes with pretty much everything that is needed for HTPC Case. Especially it's ability to start the PC with remote. Not many HTPCs has this ability. Just to add the feature it will cost $50 if we want to buy separately.
Cons:
The LCD quality is very lousy. Contrast is very bad, even after several adjustable(at contrast level 3-4 it is little better) it is hardly legible from the couch. Standby power connector for Remote sensor and LCD module is proprietary, so if you have to use different power supply, you have to be handy. But it seem new version without powersupply, they are supplying that connector so that it can be used with any powersupply.
iMon Software if not that great, after several hours of configuration its still not behaving as expected.
No built-in Card reader, or place to mount a card-reader, unless you are willing to hang it out of USB port.
Overall Review:
Despite all those issues I mentioned, it is still one of the best cases for the price. Good high-efficiency power supply, good build quality, lot for the price.
I had to use different powersupply on my Foxconn skt 939 MB as it never worked with any 80+ Antec powersupplies. So I ended up making my own connector from 24 PIN main power supply to LCD+Remote Module. And also, there is no documentation about how to connect the power switch to LCD module to start with remote. I had to look at Antec FAQs to identify the connector.
All-in-all once configured, it is really good, I configured my Harmony 880, and iMon software to work with my BeyondTV, MediaPlayer, PowerDVD, and RealPlayer. I even configured Mouse controls for Harmony, so when we need to use a mouse, we still have it. I also have Logitech PS3 RF keyboard with Touchpad, PC connected to 42" 1080P TV, and Onkyo Receiver.
I was able to get rid of my two legacy remote receivers with built-in receiver.
