Pros:
Brought an aging system some new life! Runs the games I play at very high settings without concern.
I bought this to replace a 8500 GT that just wasn't cutting it anymore for some of the newer games.
Cons:
A bit long. Had to remove one of my 120mm case fans to fit this sucker into my case, but I knew it was an issue before purchases. Not going to subtract an egg for it when it's not an issue of performance.
Also the heatsink ended up being a bit too tall to crossfire this in my new ASRock A785GXH/128M mobo. But this is more of a failing of the mobo not having enough clearance on their part.
Luckily I didn't purchase 2 of them since I knew it might be a tight fit. Besides this is powerful enough to run almost anything currently out and should last at least a year or 2 before needing to upgrade again
Overall Review:
Bought this with ASRock A785GXH/128M mobo and OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700W psu to replace an HP pavillion mobo and a psu that failed.
Still using my AMD 64x2 4200+ and DDR2 533 RAM and the performance on graphics is far and away more than I expected.
Had concerns the old CPU and older DDR2 RAM might bottleneck it too much. But, as far as I can tell it's not very much and I plan to upgrade to an AM3 CPU and 1066 DDR 2 RAM when I have the money to do so.
Haven't messed with overclocking yet. Still getting a handle on the new BIOS settings and programs they come with to tweak.
Been 7 years since I put a new rig together. the HP I got was a friends old PC and we basically gutted it to tide me over til I could get something better.
Spent 278 with tax and shipping. And have 55 in rebates coming back (hopefully)!
Good way to keep an old system alive before a complete overhaul is needed!
