- AMD E-350 APU (1.6GHz, Dual-Core)
- AMD A45 (Hudson D1)
- 2 x 240Pin
Not very useful for an HTPC build 11/23/2011
This review is from: Foxconn SFF R40-A1 AMD A45 (Hudson D1) 1 x HDMI Barebone
Pros:
Reasonably priced barebones package for a small form-factor desktop PC.
Motherboard has no fan.
Cons:
CD/DVD drive door poorly designed and will not remain closed.
PSU still has a fan.
Overall Review:
I bought this barebone package with the intention of using it as the basis of an HTPC. On paper, it looks good: an appealing design, low-power E-350 CPU and the Foxconn brand.
When I received it, I was disappointed. The case is clearly not designed for horizontal operation. It is clear that Foxconn designed this case as a small-form factor desktop office PC. The CD/DVD door is extremely flimsy and will not stay closed when the case is placed horizontally. I wanted to place my PC horizontally under the TV; so this problem alone caused me to send the system back immediately. I will be looking for a decent HTPC case with a separate (fanless) power brick.
I think it would be a fine small-form factor desktop PC. The E-350 has ample performance for most PC tasks. The motherboard does not have a fan; but the case has a classical power supply with a fan.
If you're looking for an HTPC barebone, I suggest you look elsewhere and save yourself from the frustration of dealing with the DVD
