This review is from: Sunpentown SD-65E 65 Pint Dehumidifier with Energy Star
Pros:
It comes with hose for external drain connection that is approximately 1 inch longer than needed for permanent attachment. I f you decide to use it you must cut off the excess and attach the two screws that fastens the white hose attachment to the bady of the unit.
I read other people complaining about the excess. I think the excess is there on purpose. It is useful to allow a person to place a pail under it and test out the hose attachment. This worked fine for me.
Keep in mind when you move the unit or for a few hours after it is turned off enough water still drains out to make a sizeable puddle.
The sunpentown sd-65E pulls a l0ot of moisture out of the air quickly. It takes only 5 or 10 minutes for it to unfog my bathroom after I take a steaming hot shower with all the windows closed.
It takes the humidity level down from 80+ to well under 60 in that time. In in NYC.
Cons:
Not silent. When it self defrosts, it turns itself on high speed.
If using the external hose connection - When moving it from room to room I suggest a small plastic bag attached with a rubber band- a quart or gallon size sandwich bag will keep your floors dry. I am very snsitive to noise and do not like to hear regular computer case fans. So I would say thison norman speed is a little noisier than a "quiet air conditioner" on high. While defrosting or on high is much louder.
But I am happy I bought this unit.
Overall Review:
uses about 680 Watts according to my kill a watt meter. only about 10 watts difference between low and high speed (fan).
I Wish it had a timer to set for 10 minutes then automatically go off. Then it would be the perfect dehuimidifier for reducing mold in a bathroom without an exhaust vent.
Does not add a lot of heat - but is enough to warm up my 61 degree 6x7' bathroom 2 degrees in about 10 minutes.
Works so well and fast I recommended it to a friend with peeling paint in the bathroom from moisture.
