DELL Laptop Inspiron Intel Core i3-330UM 2GB Memory 250GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 11.6" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit iM101z-3980BK
  • Intel Core i3-330UM
  • 2GB Memory 250GB HDD
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • 1366 x 768
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Pros:

Price, Intel i3 processor, decent speakers, VGA and HDMI, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, two easy-to-get-to memory slots

When I got my laptop and looked up service tag on Dell's site, machine is listed as "Inspiron 1121" and had a warranty of over 410 days (instead of only 365 days)

Windows Experience Index numbers, FYI
CPU=4.2
RAM=4.9 (5.1 after RAM upgrade)
GPU=3.3
3D=4.6
HDD=5.9 (7.7 after SSD upgrade)

On Win7 Balanced Power Plan, Battery was reporting 6.5hr @97%, 4hr @ 91%, 2.5hr @ 73%, 3hr @ 62%,... 2.5hr @ 27%

Cons:

Mouse buttons are a bit recessed, and I often hit edge of laptop.
Glossy lid & bezel = fingerprint smudge central.
Keyboard lacks Pause/Break and Fn numpad keys on the letters--even my original eee pc netbook had those buttons. (I end up using Win7 on-screen keyboard when I need Numpad asterisk for certain apps.)
While not too difficult, you must remove keyboard to replace hard disk drive.
The SD card slot "blank" cover is hard to eject. SD cards themselves are easy insert/eject without protruding.

Overall Review:

Two 1.35volt 2GB Crucial RAM @ newegg, part CT25664BF1339 work fine (should have bought 4GB module as dual-channel doesn't seem to matter)

Like many, I did the SSD upgrade (Crucial M4 with transfer kit @ newegg). If you replace HDD, install the software PWBoot so you can still boot the drive to windows when connected via USB adapter!

Did clean install from a Dell Win7 sp1 Home Prem disc (activation no issue). Device Manager lacked drivers for the following:
Intel(R) Centrion(R) Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250
Network Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller <-- WinUpdate found Intel Mgmt SW

Got WiFi driver by downloading R273603 (or maybe R244195) from Dell.
Can't test WiMAX, but it's fine in the Device Manager after I grabbed the 8.6MB file "WiMAX_7.0_264" from Intel's site and/or the 70.5MB file "Wireless_15.1.1_s64"

From Dell I installed Chipset, SATA, Graphics, Touchpad, CardReader (custom SD icon) QuickSet adds option to change the Fn key behavior to Win+X... or
