Great Motherboard 09/01/2012
This review is from: ASUS P9X79 DELUXE LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
Pros:
This motherboard works as advertised. Every feature that I've tried has worked so far (two months and counting).
Cons:
This board easily has way more features than I know how to take advantage of at this point. Maybe later I'll tinker with more of the features.
While the User's Manual did a pretty good job covering most of the features, for me there was two places where the manual could have done a slightly better job
1. Setting the Memory Frequency/Speed & Auto Tuning
2. SSD installation
My goal for this build was to get fast componets without over clocking. So I picked memory that was on the QVL.
G.Skill DDR3-1866 32GB. While fast, this memory is no where near the high end for this board. It was to confusing to get this memory to work, which if finally did.
Thank goodness for MemOK & Clear CMOS buttons.
There is no indication when the board is still dooing auto tuning or not.
The other problem was installing the OCZ Vertex 4 SSD.
I tried eveything including secure-erase of the SSD.
Finally hit the "Hot Plug" button and everything worked.
Why should that need to be on? Continued...
Overall Review:
After Windows 7 Ultimate was finally installed I turned off the Hot Plug and everything continued to work.
I didn't remove any eggs because the problems I had could have easily been operator error or lack of experience.
So far no glitches or hiccups, everything appears to solid as a rock.
