Response to David S one egg review 09/07/2012
This review is from: Definitive Technology StudioMonitor 350 Bookshelf/Stand Mount Speaker (Black) Pair
Pros:
This is a wonderful sounding pair of bookshelf speakers. They are a true full range audio solution for someone that has limited space to work with. The 8" radiator helps this speakers attain lows that most speakers in this size and class can't match. It's tweeter is not overly bright or "shouty". Makes a good choice for two channel music systems where the user would rather not have to augment with a powered sub.
Cons:
To Respond to David S. concern. Despite being reasonably efficient, this is not the kind of speaker you would drive with a cheap 12.5 watt class D amp like you find in the Nexus Q. A poor power source can and will lead to the demise of a speaker like this. If you intend to drive these beauty's, please consider a quality amplifier. I'm using an Onkyo stereo receiver that delivers 50 real full range watts per channel into 8 ohms at less than .009% total harmonic distortion. You will want a similar spec, and honestly it's not that hard to come by, my receiver costs less than $200 many places online. Please don't saddlebag these baby's with a lousy class D amplifier, you are doing yourself a huge disservice.
