TP-LINK TL-WDN3800 Dual Band Wireless N600 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2
  • Selective 300Mbps on 2.4GHz or 5GHz
  • Two Adjustable Antennas
  • Advanced Security-WPA / WPA2
  • Plug & Play for Windows 8

Pros:

It works and that is exactly what you are looking for when in this market. Installing this Wi-Fi card will be no different than any other card you may have used in the past. Make sure you have an open and available PCI Express port on your system before purchasing this model.

1. I shutdown my PC and plugged in the card. Then attached both antennas from the back.
2. Booted up PC, went to device manager, choose the adapter, went to upgrade the driver, and pointed it to the CD.
3. Driver was successfully installed and I connected to my Wireless Network.
4. Done.

The whole process will only take a couple minutes from start to finish. The build quality of this device is nice and its from a brand that has a reputation of being reliable these days. I would recommend a card from this brand before some of the "really cheap" options you may find. This card will work both newer N based networks or the older more common G networks.

Cons:

I did not see any faults with this hardware itself.

Note that this card uses the PCI express port (different that the traditional PCI port you may be used to). Be sure to check your system and make sure it has a PCI Express port (smaller than regular PCI) before going with this model. Also make sure that your port is open and not being blocked by other hardware/heatsinks/etc.

Overall Review:

If you are looking for a N desktop Wi-Fi card, you should consider this card from TP-LINK. However, TP-LINK also offers a N Wi-Fi card for about half the price that would be perfectly suitable for most users. If you are someone who transfers files between systems inside your home or work network than you will appreciate the faster speeds offered by this model. If you only use this to connect to the internet and not to transfer files on your network, than you may notice any benefits of going with this more expensive model.

After installing the driver from the CD and testing that the card works, it is always best practice (no matter what the hardware) to go to the manufactures website and see if an even newer driver is available. Depending on when you make this purchase a newer driver (than that one offered on the included CD) may be available.

System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
ISP: Verizon FiOS
