Western Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
  • Maximum performance for power computing
  • Dual processor,Dynamic Cache
  • Rock-solid Mechanical Architecture
  • Height: 9.5mm
  • 5-year limited warranty

Pros:

This HDD is indeed faster than my previous 5400rpm drive that came with my laptop.

Cons:

Loud noise and clicking sound.

Overall Review:

This is my day 1 with this drive installed on my laptop. I've used it for about 40 minutes now, and I already heard 3 clicking sounds coming from the HDD. My old 5400 rpm drive never made that sound, and coming from my experience, any HDD that made this clicking sound were near dead and stopped working within 3 months. Now, I don't feel like storing any important data on this drive now.
Also, the noise coming from this drive is loud enough to cover my cpu fan noise. THAT IS RIDICULOUS.
I'm going to try to return this or at least replace it and see if the next one is any better.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Scorpio Black, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
Each of our drives is rigorously tested before leaving our warehouses to ensure that they are in good working condition prior to shipping. There are many variables that could amount to a drive emitting unusual sounds when powered on. To test our drives health, we have our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows (WinDLG) utility, and Mac users can of course use Disk Utility and First Aid. For information on how to use the WinDLG utility, please view the information provided by the following link.
