This review is from: MSI GT Series - 17.3" - Intel Core i7-3630QM - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX - 16 GB DDR3 - 750GB HDD 128 GB SSD - Windows 8 - Gaming Laptop (GT70 0ND-492US )
Pros:
dedicated video card means this laptop will stay competitive for at least another year with up to date drivers and smart ownership. Beautiful keyboard display, matte finish on monitor makes it viewable from several angles.
Wow, the ethernet port. You're not going to want to bother with wireless if you're on a decent cable line.
Great on board sound means enjoyable sound quality without speakers or headset. Optimus is okay for battery life though cumbersome if you forgot you left your IGPU turned on (11 FPS IGPU vs 38 FPS DGPU on GW2, Ultra settings), so ignore the bad reviews complaining about optimus, left click and go to the nvidia control panel.
There's a setting to turn up fan speed which has a slight, yet noticeable effect on temp. Still runs pretty warm so don't hesitate to get a cooling pad. There's even an "turbo" setting which supposedly overclocks the settings, though most games can still be ran at ultra with it off.
Aesthetically pleasing if thats what you're into, black aluminium finish with lots of angles, control over keyboard colors.
Worth the investment!
Cons:
This thing is huge. No, really, you're going to think otherwise until you have to replace your backpack. There are certainly bulkier and uglier machines out there.
It seems like some of the functions keys don't work? Specifically the eco setting. Also, the keyboard is lifting up from the bottom right corner (by enter on the number pad) though its not the most used keys so I'm not worried about it (yet). I think the lift came because I've wanged that corner of my laptop on walls or desks or whatever once or twice, so again, the size (worth the power, though). If its going to break, let it break before the 20th so I can get some sort of replacement.
Overall Review:
worth it worth it worth it. A steal for this price, unless you want to build a desktop, which you could get the same if not better specs for -$600
