ASUS VivoBook X202E-DH31T 11.6" Touchscreen Notebook Intel Core i3 3217U 4GB 500 GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • Intel Core i3-3217U 1.8GHz
  • 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD
  • 1366 x 768, Intel HD Graphics 4000

Pros:

lightweight, small, touchscreen works nicely. works for school, writing papers, checking school related websites and such. I like the overall aesthetic design.
cheap, but in all honesty you can get a much more powerful system for a lot cheaper if you can go without the touchscreen.

Cons:

Think your getting an 1800 MHz processor? try halving that! the cooling systems in this thing are a complete failure. in fact, theyre almost non-existent by design. you will always be running an overheated processor throttled at 800 MHz. you can forget about any kind of light gaming (or any other use of the HD 4000 for that matter) on this thing. even youtube videos will send the temps into the 80s, throttling the processor. not sure what good it does to only have 1800mhz while idling on the destop, but that's what this thing does.
oh and the battery lasts about 2.5 hours.
also by default the wifi gets throttled when its unplugged. I had to mess with the power settings for internet to be fast enough to be usable when unplugged.
oh and the OS is appearently still in beta and somewhat buggy. not sure when the fully functional windows 8 is going to be released. theres an 8.1 preview available but its even buggier than 8.0 so far.

Overall Review:

the primary reason I got this was for school. and for that it does its job well, so long as I have a power socket available for long study sessions. the power brick is tiny and extremely portable. I had hoped to be able to do some very light gaming when taking breaks but even at minimum settings most games will not run well at 800 MHz. ive gotten SimCity 4 to work ok on it though. the only reason ive kept it is because it fulfills its primary school related functions. unless asus offers to replace the cooling system with something designed to actually cool, I wont be looking at any of their products when this thing eventually burns out from running hot all the time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive review! The hardware configuration was designed for light usage and intended for consumers that require simple computing. Without a cooling system the unit will operate normally although heat being generated can be felt.
At fully-charged, the battery life will last up to 5 hours but this may vary depending on how many devices and applications are running.
If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com.
