you get what you pay for 09/08/2013
This review is from: AeroCool DoublePower VGA Cooler
Pros:
Looks good - as though it should work. Fits the card well, nice speed control, quiet, very inexpensive for what you actually get
Cons:
Memory heat sinks are worthless as the adhesive tape supplied with them won't hold them on long enough to install the card. Even though I cleaned the memory chips thoroughly (not mentioned in the instructions by the way), they all fell off despite any attempt to keep them on. For that reason, I couldn't get a decent heat test but without them the temp was 61C at idle while the stock cooler ran 50C. No help there.
Instructions are poor as you will need a magnifying glass to read them and the hardware doesn't match the procedure (extra parts that can confuse a novice). Thermal compound is sub-par but plentiful.
The size is huge and will render the neighboring PCI slot useless and possibly the next slot too unless it is a really short card. I guess that depends on the location of the GPU chip on your card.
Overall Review:
My V/C are two XFX 8600 GTS in SLI config and have always run extremely hot to the point of interrupting game play under heavy use. In hindsight, I'd probably been better off to buy different video cards rather than trying to improve these.
As it will cost about half what I paid to return this junk, maybe I'll try what another reviewer suggested and stack a small fan on top the GPU heat sink, assuming I can find a way to keep the memory heat sinks on.
The heat pipe concept seems to have failed in this design so I think the product was not properly tested, at least under extreme conditions like mine. Maybe that's the reason for the low cost but don't be fooled like me, this is another case of "you get what you pay for"
