Overall Review:
I have had my ONKYO HT-RC560 7.2-Channel Receiver for a few weeks now and I can say that I am very happy with it. The Audysey w/supplied mic did a good job of setting up my 7r. old Bose 5.1 speaker system and the sound is great. I would say the audio is a notch better than my old Harmon Kardon AVR330. But I upgraded primarily for the connectivity(HDMI, Networking) not for any sound improvement so I am very pleased. Even the wife says it sounds better. I wish they could have given the remote backlighting and was surprised to see no Tape IN/OUT jacks. Although I can’t remember the last time I recorded any cassette tapes, I still have the deck and it’s a matter of principle. I have never seen an amp w/o tape i/o. Also, the USB does not provide enough power to run an external USB HDD. Although I have only tried one 2.5” SATA drive/enclosure. I would take half an egg off for these 3 minor deficiencies not a full egg(don't see that option). I use the Zone2 line outputs for my wireless patio speakers and like that it still leaves me the option to go full 7.1 with the powered outputs or connect another set of remote speakers. The networking seems to work fine. I have not tried the wifi or Bluetooth yet. I use a powerline adapter thru an Ethernet switch and can play my music library off my NAS w/o issue both as a share(HomeMedia) or via DLNA. The Android smartphone app does the trick in main room or zone2 but seems to hang occasionally in zone2. Could be my signal level in my patio. I have not tried to update the firmware. From the descriptions in the downloadable instructions the most recent updates are for XM radio and Connect4 SDDP protocol. Neither of which I need/use. I will upgrade sooner or later just to be up to date. All in all an excellent value in a mid-level AVR and would recommend it to anyone unless you really need the tape deck I/O connections.
