This review is from: WD 2TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0020HWT-NESN
Pros:
Worked great for one day.
Cons:
After one day, the power went out. Why is that a problem? When installed I used their "dashboard"; it loaded a webpage from 193.168.0.107 -- OK, fine; that's the address. I was able to guess that I could access the device, using that address, from any computer in my LAN. After the power came back, the dashboard utility still links to 192.168.0.107 -- only it's not there. Dashboard utility is useless. What's the new address? Other computers in my LAN, set up with the 107 address cannot find "my cloud". I eventually found I could use the name WDMYCLOUD instead of the address -- mind you, WD's help didn't tell me that. I had to work for it. Dashboard utility is still useless. I just HOPE I can set my systems to locate the devise without a lot of work. Why does WD hate its customers?
Manufacturer Response:
Greetings Tom H.,
We appreciate your feedback regarding our WD My Cloud NAS. Periodically the router will assign a new IP address as the DHCP lease expires on a particular device. Your router is the default DHCP server for your LAN (Local Area Network). The My Cloud Setup software will place three shortcuts on your desktop for the Dashboard (Web User Interface), the Public share, and our Learning Center. The Dashboard and Public share short cuts are configured by the IP address at the time the drive was setup. You may edit these short cuts by right mouse click on the particular shortcut and select Properties. Allow some time for the Properties window to open. Replace the IP address with the NAS drive name i.e. WDMyCloud for example. Save your changes. The shortcuts will now point to the drive name instead of a dynamic IP address. Another method would be to assign a static IP address or IP address reservation in your router.
How to configure a WD My Cloud or WD My Cloud EX4 Personal Cloud drive with a Static IP:
