Pros:
This router is fairly cost effective for a wireless 802.11n device, and one that supports DD-WRT. The Setup CD doesn't have to install anything to your computer; it's just a router configuration wizard. It's very easy to set up and makes sure to remind you of the process to set up a cloned MAC address (should you need it because of your cable provider).
Unlike other routers, I have not had any stability issues in the first 30 days. No hangs, no random drops (within reasonable range), no resets. It just worked. The range is about the same as previous routers I had used. Works great on my laptop and iphone, and my iphone correctly sees both bands and doesn't have and trouble connecting and using either of them.
Cons:
- Minor con, as it's immediately fixable: The WPS Pin is turned on by default. This is risky as it is relatively easy to hack. Turn it off after you have your router set up!
Overall Review:
It would be nice if the firmware had a software switch to toggle the lights on/off so you can be sure they still work but also let you sleep at night if it's in the same room. Electrical tape can do the trick in the mean time.
- The default login username and password both are admin, so make sure you change those immediately. Turn of WPS Pin while you're at it.
