This review is from: Thermaltake Toughpower Grand PS-TPG-0850MPCGUS-1 850W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified 7 Year Warranty Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply Haswell Ready
Pros:
Small size (too small for my server Thermaltake box but I plugged the holes with the rubber insulation from the previous Thermaltake PSU), quieter than my older 750 Watt Tt PSU it replaced, modular cables are long enough to reach everywhere even in my huge server box.
Cons:
Wrong labeling of the CPU vs. PCI-E sockets. The CPU cable goes into the BLACK receptable regardless what labeling says. Do not put your CPU cable into the red receptacle! RED are only for PCI-E cards.
Overall Review:
I was following "the advice" of a fella Alexander W in the review above this one. I thought he had PSU checked when he was writing a review but it seems like he did not have the PSU.
Never put the CPU plug into the RED! It goes to the BLACK receptacle. The labeling is wrong (or I think more probable cause is that the receptables were connected OK inside but then they were put in the wrong spot during assembly in the factory if workers don't care much about the position of colors and labels).
My server flashed up for a second and then the circuit breaker went off when CPU was connected to RED (yeah, me stupid, I was following the labeling). After putting it into the BLACK mislabeled receptable the machine started up. It is just about an hour after I turned it on but besides messed up settings of BIOS (it took a minute to fix it) all seems to work fine and I hope it stays that way.
Thanks TYAN for making high quality server boards.
