ASUS Router does not hold up 07/07/2014
This review is from: ASUS RT-N66U N900 Dual-Band WiFi Gigabit Router
Pros:
This ASUS Router (RT-N66U) performed flawlessly for the first year and five months. Really good software.
And when you have a problem you can get a human on the phone.
Cons:
It failed without warning, dead and will not light up.
It gave no warning and worked fine yesterday but died sometime overnight. It was purchased new from Newegg Feb 2013 and did not make it past 18 months.
The Router was plugged into a battery ups for protection along with a cable modem and switch. The other equipment is still working without problems so I feel sure it was not a surge or power sag that caused this.
Overall Review:
This was the top ASUS router at the time and I felt like it was worth the money then. The 2 year warranty also seemed to be a good selling point.
And, I do appreciate that they answer their phones, the customer support was solid.
What they do not tell you is that you have to RMA (return) the Router for inspection and repair (not outright replacement). I can understand their being cautious but whatever happened to "cross shipping".
If your Router dies, how long does ASUS expect you to be without a Router? No clue on how long this will take or when they will get around to fixing my Router.
But, wait I have an old (slow) D-Link Router that I have set up to temporarily have a network at home. This thing has been around for ages and I loaned it out when some friends had router problems. Hmmmm..., I may have bought the wrong brand of Router.
