Great sounding bookshelf speakers! 10/08/2014
This review is from: Polk Audio TSi100 Loudspeaker Black Pair
Pros:
These speakers have very full, rich sound and I couldn't be happier! I have always heard good things about Polk but have never actually owned any. Up until recently I have always used HTIB systems and they sounded good to me until I finally built my new component system. Now some of my parts are not new but the sound is all that matters to me. I am running these as my front mains. Using a Harman Kardon AVR 254 receiver, Polk CS10 center channel, and Polk OWM3's for the rears. Using an Acoustic Audio PSW8 sub. I have never heard thousand dollar speakers so I can't compare the quality of these to something on that level but they are by far the best bookshelf speakers I have ever heard. If you have a chance to buy some, do it. It looks like they are out of stock here but I know you can still get them directly from Polk.
Cons:
The only thing that could potentially be a con is the ones I got had dual binding posts. If you don't know a lot about home theater it could be a little confusing. I wasn't sure if I needed to run two wires from each of the receiver outputs to the posts or if they could be run with just one set hooked up and if so, which set or did it matter. Then I thought that meant they could be bi-amped. Apparently, the new ones no longer have the dual binding posts to eliminate confusion but honestly I am still not sure exactly what can be done with them. I just have one set of wire hooked up to the bottom posts and the speakers sound great. Just something I figured would be worth mentioning, but not really a con.
Overall Review:
This is my first home theater system that wasn't one of those home theaters in a box. So I have done a lot of research and read many articles and reviews about what to do and not do, what numbers to pay attention to like frequency range and db sensitivity and that watts aren't really all that telling when it comes to receivers, etc, etc. I am definitely no expert on home theater but what I am is someone who has always loved great sound. And ultimately, these speakers sound great to me. So if you're not a pro and are trying to figure out what speakers are good, I recommend these for this price range.
