FireWire card with internal header! 01/29/2016
This review is from: Sedna PCI 3 + 1 Port 1394A (Firewire) Adapter Card with Low Profile Metal Bracket
Pros:
This was one of the only cards I could find with an internal header pin so that I could use the port on my case. Works well and had no real issues.
Cons:
None so far. The one thing that concerned me was how it installed. I put in the card and booted up my Win 8.1 Enterprise custom rig. There was NO indication of Windows recognizing new hardware. There was NO Windows popup or sound or anything. There was NO new IEEE1394 icon in the Control Panel or Network Connections. Going to the Device Manager and selecting "Scan for Hardware Changes" did nothing (making me think that it was not recognized and was DOA). The only way this showed that it was working was that I now had an item for "IEEE 1394 host controllers" in the Device Manager which I didn't know if that was it or not (due to no 'new' hardware). The only way I could test it out was to hook up the camera and turn it on. Sure enough, it recognized my camera via FireWire, so I guess it did install, just as silently as possible though.
Overall Review:
I used this specifically to record all my 8mm videos to PC. It was over 60hrs worth of video all done within a week and some days. The only issues I had was that after about 12hrs or recording at a time, that the software failed to properly capture the video resulting in a failed video AFTER it was done with the 2hr tape and failed 25gb video. I still don't know if this was due to the card, the slightly buggy software, or the camera not properly pushing out correct data through the FireWire port.
