Very "cool" card

SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X Radeon R9 280X 3GB PCI Express 3.0 TRI-X OC w/ Boost Video Card (UEFI) 100363VX-2SR
SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X Radeon R9 280X 3GB PCI Express 3.0 TRI-X OC w/ Boost Video Card (UEFI) 100363VX-2SR

Pros: This is an absolutely exemplary card. It especially shines in the thermal department. I bought this card to use for crypto currency mining, so it gets run at full-tilt pretty much 24/7, and it levels out at ~70ºC with the fans running at <50%. If I manually turn the fans up to 100% then the temperature drops down into the 50's. This means that not only do I expect the hardware to have better longevity due to the lower thermal stress, but it is also much quieter since the fans are running at lower speeds. Using cgminer (v3.7.2) to mine SCRYPT-based coins, I average about 750KH/s with just the following parameters in my .bat file: setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 cgminer.exe -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 11200 --gpu-powertune 20

Cons: Very large: Not really a drawback, just something to be aware of and take into consideration before you buy; make sure that it will fit into your case/build. This card it easily 50%-75% longer than my old graphics card. (The extra size is in part due to the 3rd fan and extended heat sink)

Overall Review: There is a blue backlit "VAPOR-X" logo cut into the top of the card. I'll admit, it looks really cool inside my case. My computer is in my bedroom though, so I had to cover it up with electrical tape so it wouldn't keep me up. (I have yet to fine a way to turn off the light in software) The other aesthetics are also very nice. This is a really cool looking card, if that kind of thing matters to you. I haven't used this card for gaming at all, just mining, so take that for what it's worth. I imagine it would perform similar or better to other versions of the R9 280x though, and the exceptional thermal management properties should be universal.

Most Critical Review

Great performance. Unbearable high-pitch noise.

CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750 W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Compatible with New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Solid as a rock. Looks very nice. Plenty of cables. Practically oozes quality, even comes in a friggin velvet pouch! As far as construction and performance go, this PSU is absolutely head and shoulders above any other I've owned.

Cons: Sometimes makes an unbearable high pitched whining/ringing noise that is oh so slowly leaching away my sanity. (I used a stethoscope to verify that it IS the GPU making the noise) So far it mostly happens whenever I load the GPU (by running Folding at Home or a graphics stress test), and also if I put the system to sleep and then turn off the case lights (?!? go figure) The noise isn't super loud, though it is loud enough to be easily heard over the case fans and all the ambient noise in the room. It's the kind of thing that really really starts to drive you mad after a few minutes, to the point that I can't run Folding at Home or play high graphics games when I'm in the same room. I think I'm going to RMA to Corsair. If that fixes the problem I'll change my rating. Still that means I won't have a PSU for a few weeks, so boooo.

Overall Review: Unbeatable function, but if you or anyone else who's going to be using your computer are under the age of 35, the noise WILL make you want to rip your own ears off. Deserves five stars for performance and one star for that awful high pitch noise, so I'm taking the average between the two.

Solid design. Solid performance.

Microsoft SideWinder X5 Mouse
Microsoft SideWinder X5 Mouse

Pros: Looks cool as h*ll. Works extremely well. On the fly DPI changing is a lot more useful than I thought it would be. Buttons are easy to program and can easily be configured to do different things depending on what program you're in. Feels really nice in my hand. Tracks amazingly well. I've tried using this thing on everything from shiny table tops, couch cushions, fuzzy blankets, you name it, and it has yet to skip around or mistrack. Overall, very solid design and performance.

Cons: Occasionally I hit the buttons on the side by accident, but that may be more due to my clumsy monkey hands than any particular design flaw.

Overall Review: I have big hands but I usually prefer smaller mice (I typically game with a netbook mini mouse) so I was initially wary that this was going to feel too big. Nope. It feels great. The ergonomics scale very well for big and small hands. This mouse is extremely comfortable to use.

Excellent
