works great

ZyXEL ES1100-8P Unmanaged 8-port Switch with 4 PoE port
ZyXEL ES1100-8P Unmanaged 8-port Switch with 4 PoE port

Pros: Simple to setup, EEE compliant, lights and outlets on the front, documentation is well written, auto-negotiating, auto-crossover, 15.4 watts per port.

Cons: I am forced to enter something in the cons box but there are none.

Overall Review: The LAN sockets are now on the front of the unit, together with the indicator lights. The actual unit does not match Newegg's picture anymore (as of 12/26/12). Power cord and master power switch are on the back. There is also a 'IEEE802.3az ON/OFF' button on the front. This activates/deactivates the 'Energy Efficient Ethernet' function. Your POE device has to be compliant to use this feature.

update and not a good one

TP-LINK TL-WR1042ND Gigabit Wireless N300 Router, 300Mbps, USB port, 2 Detachable Antennas, IP QoS / QSS Button
TP-LINK TL-WR1042ND Gigabit Wireless N300 Router, 300Mbps, USB port, 2 Detachable Antennas, IP QoS / QSS Button

Pros: worked for a while

Cons: reboots constantly

Overall Review: This is a revision to my earlier review. In that review I stated that a firmware update cured the box's rebooting problem. Well, it only changed the rebooting issue. Instead of rebooting every 10 minutes, it now reboots or hangs at least once a day. It requires a cold restart when it hangs (pull the power plug). This is completely unacceptable. I cannot recommend that anyone purchase this item.

Noisy

EVERCOOL EC8038HH12BP 80mm Dual Ball bearing 4 Pin PWM fan, Long life bearing, Low noise & high airflow, Low pollution
EVERCOOL EC8038HH12BP 80mm Dual Ball bearing 4 Pin PWM fan, Long life bearing, Low noise & high airflow, Low pollution

Pros: Blows air

Cons: Noisy No screws Bizarre verbage on packaging

Overall Review: On the box I found the following description: FEATURES: - Long life beaning - Long noise & high airflow - Long pollution (ROHS complate) ...so I guess we should expect the noise. I didn't expect the long pollution however.

Good solid case

COOLER MASTER Elite 110 RC-110-KKN2 Midnight Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case
COOLER MASTER Elite 110 RC-110-KKN2 Midnight Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case

Pros: quality construction good looking good ventilation plenty of space inside holds 3 3.5 drives

Cons: plastic feet usb ports upside down disk activity light is out of sight the CoolerMaster status light/power button is large and kinda ugly and well illuminated. Do LEDs come in a different color than blue?

Overall Review: Others have pretty well described this case. These things have not been mentioned. The removable cover has little grabs formed into the rear flange which makes it easy to pull the cover away from the chassis without using fingernails or a screwdriver. The usb ports are upside down. Seriously? I was installing FreeBSD from a usb stick that has an activity LED on its top side. When plugged in I had to crane my neck to see its underside to view the activity LED. The disk activity light is on the side so it is not typically visible. Why bother to include this indicator light if it can't easily be seen? It looks to me like this case can hold 3 3.5 drives plus another 2.5 drive, but I haven't tried it. Overall this is a fine case. Edit on 6/5/17: Case fan bearing failed (120mm). It had been going bad for a long time. Wouldn't buy another one of these for that reason alone. Fan has Cooler Master label on it.

A nice little case

ARK ITX/CS-Ci02 Black Server Case open frame 90W
ARK ITX/CS-Ci02 Black Server Case open frame 90W

Pros: This is a nice little no-frills chassis. It's steel, not aluminum and the cover has some kind of black coating that looks decent. The two fans are pretty quiet and seem to keep the innards cool. My two hard drives each show about 28 degrees C running with an Intel Atom board.

Cons: I found the fan cable did not reach to the header on my mb. I wasn't sure what the effect of this would be so I powered it up to see. Only the left fan worked. Investigating I found the cable had been doubled back several times and tied in this configuration. The bundled part was tucked down around the ps and not obvious. I undid that and then the cable reached the header. The second fan now runs. No instructions or any other paperwork is in the box. Not too hard to figure out how to use the chassis without it. Still it would be nice to see a 'Thanks for buying our product' kind of thing in there with the manufacturer's name and contact info. The VESA mount can be detached if you want to set the box on a shelf but there are little screw bosses that stick out (for the VESA screws) that might scratch what it sits on. There are no rubber feet in the box. The power cord awkwardly sticks out of the front panel.

Overall Review: There is about 44 mm space between the mother board and the lid, fyi. They could have added more headroom without adding much extra cost. The fans blow air out of the case, not in as I had expected. Considering that there is a mesh at the top rear of the case that hot air would naturally flow out of, I figured the fans would be set to augment that. But I assume the manu knows what they are doing with that, and the interior seems cool enough. I will be buying another one of these to replace an Apex Mi008 whose power supply fan is badly rattling after a year of no downtime service. The FreeBSD system on that server is more reliable than the hardware it runs on apparently. I sure hope the power supply in the new box lasts.
