Best bang for the buck! Update firmware before using!

Sabrent EC-UM30 Sabrent EC-UM30 Drive Enclosure External - Silver - 1 x Total Bay - 1 x 2.5" Bay - Serial ATA - USB 3.0 - Aluminum
Sabrent EC-UM30 Sabrent EC-UM30 Drive Enclosure External - Silver - 1 x Total Bay - 1 x 2.5" Bay - Serial ATA - USB 3.0 - Aluminum

Pros: USB 3.0 5Gbps speed. Firmware upgradeable. No power supply needed. USB powered! Works with mechanical and SSDs drives. Nice case. UASP support. Seems to work with Linux (Parted Magic sees it).

Cons: Not really a con but more colors than black or silver would be nice.

Overall Review: I've read reviews complaining about this drive having issues but I bet the users don't know to upgrade the firmware to at least version 1.0.0.6 before using. I get it, the average user wants to plug and go. But being firmware upgradeable means future drives will be supported and bugs get fixed. The vast majority of cases like this cannot do that. And for the price, you can't complain. Sweet little USB powered case for using as a back-up or external storage and speedy USB 3.0 5Gbps is a major plus. Although the manual doesn't say Linux is supported, Parted Magic (Linux) didn't have any issue seeing a 500GB SATA drive attached to it. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.

Most Critical Review

Does not work in HP ZE4630

CORSAIR 512MB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Laptop Memory Model VS512SDS400
CORSAIR 512MB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Laptop Memory Model VS512SDS400

Pros: Corsair is top notch stuff

Cons: Endless restart, doesn't work at all in an HP ZE4630US even with current 1.60 BIOS update.

Good replacement for failed HP PSU

PSU for HP Bestec ATX-250-12E/ATX-300-12E/ATX-300-12E-D ATX Power Supply
PSU for HP Bestec ATX-250-12E/ATX-300-12E/ATX-300-12E-D ATX Power Supply

Pros: Worked out of the box as a replacement for a dead HP 300W PSU

Cons: The SATA power connectors are hard to insert into the defvice it was going to power. I was worried I was going to break off the male receiver on the SATA DVD and SSD I was connecting too. The fit was way tighter than I'm used to. Be careful!

Overall Review: Wasn't DOA and a was perfect upgrade / replacement for the HP PSU it was replacing.

Nice upgrade if you're not a gamer and want a silent PC with good GPU horesepower

EVGA GeForce GT 1030 SC, 02G-P4-6332-KR, 2GB GDDR5, Passive, Low Profile
EVGA GeForce GT 1030 SC, 02G-P4-6332-KR, 2GB GDDR5, Passive, Low Profile

Pros: SILENT! OpenGL 4.6 Support. NVidia quality.

Cons: Can't hack the BIOS to overclock. Stupid NVidia.

Overall Review: I upgraded from an overclocked Geforce 210 and this thing made any 3D or graphics intensive stuff smooth as butter. I'm not a gamer but do appreciate this is not a gamer's VGA card. I need silent in my PC. Not something that's going to sound like a jet engine taking off.

Great bang for the buck but update your firmware to M0CR050 for better performance first

Crucial MX300 2.5" 525GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT525MX300SSD1
Crucial MX300 2.5" 525GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT525MX300SSD1

Pros: Good price/performance ratio. No troubles installing and cloning. Possible that the others who had issues cloning from one HD to the this SSD might be better served by simply upping the firmware to M0CR050 (or newer).

Cons: None.

Overall Review: On an ancient HP PC with an AMD motherboard/CPU, this SSD didn't want to be recognized on SATA port 3 or 4 but was fine on SATA port 1 or 2.

Add me to the list of happy buyers, this board is great

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I'm and AMD guy but I was given (yes, for free) an i5-4370 but had an old Asus A8N-SLI rig with a Athlon X2 3800+. So upon reviewing what worked with the 3470, all roads pointed to this board. After some research, it seemed ASRock had a bad rep with some other models so I was hesitant. I wanted to stick with an Asus or Gigabyte as I've known those brands for years. I actually bought this board locally in case of any issues. Happy I bought it! Setup was as simple as dropping in the CPU and board into my old case, connecting all my SATA drives and PCIe cards and it fired right up with no complaints. Windows 7 took a minute or two to rearrange itself to its new home but after hunting down newer drivers than what's on the CD, I was running and running very well. BIOS seems easy to navigate and I like the "No-K" overclock feature. Man, where was that kind of thing in the BIOS back in the day? While I realize I am a bit limited in terms of upgrade path down the road, I am not a gamer and just needed something of average cost and good quality and this board fits the bill well. It's built well, has good quality components and I can stick 32GB or RAM in it down the road. PCIe 3.0 is a nice plus even if PCIe 3.1/4.0 and other new tech are just around the corner. I am happy thus far.

Cons: Can't say I am a fan of the right-angled SATA connectors on the board but I am lucky I have room for movement and clip-lock style SATA cables so they don't come loose by accident. Took me a moment of two to figure out why I wasn't getting any sound. I have an M-Audio 2496 and the BIOS, by default, will not enable the onboard Realtek sound card if it detects another sound card installed. So, it has to be manually set to Enabled instead of Automatic. After that, things worked.

Overall Review: I've been a hardcore AMD guy since the 90s and was waiting, and waiting, and waiting for something newer than the 990FX. The A8N-SLI board I've had served me well but now I find out AMD has basically abandoned the desktop CPU marked and is focusing on APUs and non-performant chipsets. That and they've killed the proposed 1090FX chipset I was waiting for nearly 2+ years. So, AMD, this is where we part ways for good. Life for you was good with Jerry Sanders at the helm. Too bad a bunch of imbeciles took over after you and drove the company into the ground.
