Nice RAID component drive
Pros: I'm slowly replacing the drives in my RAID-5 setup with these. Just added my second one. Excellent drive for the price especially with the 5 year warranty. Ubuntu Disk Utility reports: (min/avg/max) 96/152/213 MB/s read and 85/125/165 MB/s write.
Cons: none
Keep your Packaging
Pros: Fast enough for general use. Uses very little power. Very small form factor. Has all the connection types I need. With Kabini processor I don't even need a video card. I bought it for my mother-in-law and it is fine for her (much better than the 5+ year old Celeron I replaced).
Cons: The machine keeps rebooting randomly despite all voltages/temperatures being within normal levels. However, Newegg support refuses to help because I threw out the original packaging. I always buy Gigabyte motherboards for their reliability, so I thought I was safe here. It's only $35 bucks but to not RMA a failed product because the customer does not have original packaging is not cool. I even offered to purchase the replacement first and ship the MB back in that box.
Overall Review: I've been a customer since they started and this is the first negative experience I've had with Newegg (or Gigabyte). I'd have a warehouse of packaging if I kept it all.
Works Perfectly
Pros: Great price!
Cons: none
Overall Review: Quick shipping, shipped from the west coast but got to me in about 4 days (in PA). Using it as a RAID array disk for my Linux machine. Using gnome-disks, for a 500G partition at the start of the drive I get 160MB/sec read with 9ms access, second 500G partition I get: 150MB/sec, 9ms and the last partition of 1TB I get 120MB/sec read with 11ms access.
Amazing Value
Pros: - works as expected - purchased as refurbished - bought for mom to use in place of terrible Frontier wireless router (range is 100x better than Frontier stock router)
Cons: - not really designed for wall mount
Overall Review: despite having wall mount holes on the bottom, the power and cable ports end up being on top of the router instead of hanging downward. It would be nice if the antennae were on one side and the cable and power were on the other. The mount holes are configured s.t. the antennae must point upward, so your cables need to droop and hang over the edge.
Ideal drive for my offline backups
Pros: - one of the most reliable drives according to older Backblaze failure reports (2017 only had 4TB+) - I filled it up with data and read it twice without any errors - they wipe most of the S.M.A.R.T. status codes so you can see how long YOU have been running the drive (previous self-tests were still in firmware) - 1 year warranty on a drive with an expired manufacturers warranty is pretty awesome.
Cons: - 64MB cache, my 1TB Seagate Constellations have 128MB
Overall Review: The drive had 26548 hours on it when I got it, so, no manufacturer warranty left over, but got a 1 year warranty from supplier.
Very Thought-out Design for Cable management
Pros: It's been 8 years since I upgraded my case. My previous case wan an Antec and the difference is night and day (I think the old one was a Sonata). This case is nice! - Bottom mounted power supply. Filtered air intake on bottom. Makes more sense than pulling hot air from inside case. - Foam padding on top/front/sides for noise reduction. - First case I've had with cable management (you run cables behind MB mounting plane - through soft grommets in place) - 7 drive bays that mound drives with cables facing cable management area - once mounted in the drive holder, the drives snap into place. - nice location for front USB connectors
Cons: - internal grommets become dislocated when pushing cables through, they're just a bit too soft - Am I missing something? The expansion card slot covers have holes in them. This defeats the purpose of the air filter in the front since dirty air will be pulled through these holes. Easy to fix with duct tape. But was this done on purpose? Is it too difficult to get enough air through the front? - You'll need to have this on a hard surface. If you place it on carpet, you're going to block the power supply air intake.
Overall Review: The cons are pretty trivial and easy to work around. I've never had a case with such a clear interior. I'm glad I upgraded. Spend the extra $10 or $20 and get this over the Sonata.
2G HGST Working Perfectly
This drive now has 1210 hours on it, it's been filled at least once, daily SMART Short offline tests, weekly Extended offline tests and everything is fine. They wipe most of the SMART info (offline test logs are maintained), so it looks like a new drive. I'm satisfied.
