Still the standard for me

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

Pros: Fast, pretty stable and takes a hit better than any other version of Windows. A solid variety of stable drivers for most any device you need. Decent security and a collection of built in utilities and apps that actually enhance the environment and aren't just bloat.

Cons: Why so many versions of the same software? And still completely overpriced.

Overall Review: If you'd prefer not to spend more time twiddling with your OS that actually doing something productive with your computer, this is still the industry standard.

Pros: Worked out of the box

Cons: Only SATA power option No riser power LED card secure slider is really clumsy to release

Overall Review: It worked OK but I'm currently using another brand in my rigs, and just keeping this around for a back-up.

Touchy

EVGA Z15 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Linear Switch, RGB Backlit LED, Hot Swappable Kailh Speed Silver Switches 821-W1-15US-KR

Pros: Good back light Quality construction

Cons: Keybounce A bit mushy

Overall Review: After a couple weeks of using this keyboard, about the only caveat I have found is that it is very touchy. It takes only the slightest pressure to register a hit key, and at times that results in a lot of keybounce. This can be a little disconcernig while gaming. It took a few days, but ultimately I am getting used to it. There is less issue as time goes on. Having come from a fully mechanical keyboard, I kind of miss my clicky tactile feedback. Trying to get used to the mushy feel to these keys, but again, as time goes on, it is becomiong less of an issue. I do like the nice bright backlight this keyboard comes with out of the box. I didn't bother to mess with it so I can't comment on the software to control it. The keyboard is well constructed and appears to use quality materials. It's got a nice hefty feel to it that I appreciate. FWIW, considering I got this at a nearly 70% discount I am rather pleased with the purchase. It desserves 5 stars at this price point. Not so sure I would have been so pleased at the full MSRP. So keep your eyes open I would suspect it will be deeply discounted again in the future,

Always seem to get the cursed MSI mobo

MSI PRO Z390-A PRO LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI PRO Z390-A PRO LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: The first one I got ran ok until the PCIe bus failed

Cons: Got this in a combo with an i5 and it worked for about 3 days and the mobo stopped POSTing; LEDs on the mobo hung on a PCIe malfunction. Had to send both the board amd CPU back for replacement. Got the new board and CPU and never got this pairing to POST even once. This time had CPU failure LED. Got tired of ,onkeying around and sent them both back again for a refund instead

Overall Review: Previous experience with MSI motherboards will not allow me to rule out the possinility that I got 2 bad ones. Thought the combo was a really good deal so I bit again. I guess you get what you pay for.

Not sure how to rate this

Intel Core i5 9th Gen - Core i5-9600K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.7 GHz (4.6 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 95W BX80684I59600K Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630

Pros: Very spritely performance under stock settings for the little time it actually ran

Cons: Got this in a combo with an MSI motherboard and it worked for about 3 days and the mobo stopped POSTing; LEDs on the mobo hung on a PCIe malfunction. Had to send both the board amd CPU back for replacement. Got the new board and CPU and never got this pair to POST even once. This time had CPU failure LED. Overall Review: For the short time it did work it performed to my satisfaction

Caveat Emptor

GIGABYTE Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB HBM2 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card GV-RXVEGA56GAMING OC-8GD
GIGABYTE Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB HBM2 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card GV-RXVEGA56GAMING OC-8GD

Pros: Worked out of the box with Windows 10 Pro and standard AMD drivers. Can take some overclocking Played well with others

Cons: Started hard crashing after about two months. Not as stable as other brand Vega 56s I have. Gigabyte's painful and expensive RMA process.

Overall Review: Card worked OK for about 2 months after I got it, but wasn't that impressive. Other brand Vega 56s I have run faster, more stable, and can handle more overclocking than the Hynix memory card I got. After two months, though, I started seeing the hard crashing that is mentioned in so many of these reviews. Spent weeks debugging and isolating the problem to this particular card. As the NewEgg return date was way passed, I had to request warranty service through Gigabyte. After jumping through a bunch of hoops, Gigabyte finally issued an RMA number, and I was privileged to get to pay $60 to insure and ship this thing from South Carolina to California. I was stuck without a card for about a month. Gigabyte sent the card back with no warning, as soon as I left for vacation, and I had to jump through more hoops with UPS to keep them from shipping it back to Gigabyte. When I was able to procure the card again, I got it home and thoroughly inspected the box and card. If it hadn't have been for a new anti-static bag I might have suspected they never touched the card. There was no sort of documentation stating what if anything they had done to the card, or might have found wrong with it. There was an invoice inside the original retail packaging I got back, showing Gigabyte USA invoicing some time back to Gigabyte China. There was no sign that any of the hardware was touched. I firmly suspect that there was a firmware update done, though. I've had the card back for about a week, and I have been running it nearly 24-7 mining various crypto algorithms. I have not done any BIOS modding at all, but I have tweaked the power settings, and overclocked the memory to 890Mhz before it gets unstable, which was what I had seen from the hardware before it started acting up. 880Mhz seems to be the limit that this memory will take. As an example, I am getting about 1300-1350H/s on Cryptonight7 with no changes to the strapping, just simple overclocking with Afterburner. This is actually 10% less then before I sent in the card, when I was easily getting 1450-1600H/s under the same conditions. Others have speculated that these cards have firmware issues, and I have to say my experience bears this out. Even with the performance hit since I got the card back, better it be stable, and run constantly, than the crashing every few hours it was doing. I will continue to monitor the situation with this card, and if it goes back to failing again, I'll update the review. Update 19 Aug 18 - Had it back now for about a month, and the Post - RMA comments are still accurate. The card itself is much more stable, and I can run it for days on end without any attributable crashes. What I have found since I have gotten it back, is it no longer plays well with others. I've tried to integrate this card with 2 other rigs, once with my other Vega 56, then with 6 RX 580s. In both cases, the rig would not run more than a couple hours without Windows freezing, black screen, BSOD, or sometimes the rig would shut power down completely. In both instances, as soon as I removed this card, things would run stably for days. So now I have it segregated to it's own system, where it's been running fine, but it is an extra electricity expense I could do without.

Good service

When I had an issue with the delivery address coming up incorrect, they took care of it no problem. The delivery time was a little slow (didn't hit the truck for about a week or so, then it sat in CA for a couple more days) but at least my account wasn't charged right away
