Most Favorable Review

Well designed board.

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nice clean board, well laid out. There was plenty of room for my after market cpu cooler (Cooler Master 212+). I could of easily had heat spreaders on my ram. Recognized my new SSD (Corsair Force 3 128gb) drive with no trouble. New system is stable and runs great. I have my i5-2500k overclocked at 4.5 and haven't had any issues. I just raised the multipliers and left all the other settings to auto. You can do this from Windows with the included software.

Cons: Only two 3.0 USB ports, located on the back. No front headers for USB 3.0. Heat sinks on the chipsets held with spring tension. You can literally pull them back off of the chipset by accident when handling the board. Doesn't appear to be a problem though, as the reseat on their own.

Overall Review: There is no need to utilize the SRT technology if you want to install your OS directly on the the SSD drive.

Vantec Vortex 2 Hard Drive Cooling System - Model VTX-C02-BK
Vantec Vortex 2 Hard Drive Cooling System - Model VTX-C02-BK

Pros: Keeps my drives cool (I have no temp monitoring for them). Cool blue lights and impressive looking.

Cons: The plastic knobs for controlling fan speed were damaged in a move.. replaced them with two more and one was DOA. If you're going to move, don't put any direct pressure on these.. the knobs are plastic with circuit cards underneath.

Overall Review: I bought them again.. says enough.

This thing is a beefy silent tank.

Fractal Design Define R4 Black Silent ATX Midtower Computer Case
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Silent ATX Midtower Computer Case

Pros: Plenty of room for after market coolers (I use the 212). Excellent cable management options - first case I've owned where it doesn't look like a rats nest in there. Lots of drive bays for 2.5 or 3.5 variants. Two huge, quiet fans already installed in a push pull configuration - including cleanable filters that are easy to remove. Discreet.

Cons: Slightly on the wide side, but you get more room inside which makes it worth it. The 2.5 drive mounts under the mainboard seem like a bad idea, especially considering you have so drive bays already available. They come with removeable mounts in the R5 but still kind of a pointless design unless you are going to put a TON of drives in here. Instructions are very much incomplete, youtube is your friend.

Overall Review: I hit the open exterior drive bay door the first night I built it, nothing broke, but it drew blood.

No frills, no problems.

G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT

Pros: Installed and recognized on my ASROCK Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard right away with no problems. No heat spreaders to get in the way. There was plenty of room for my Cooler Master 212+ after market cooler.

Cons: None at this time.

Overall Review: I run a gaming rig and this memory works great. I wasn't trying to chase another 1 to 3 percent increase in performance with more expensive memory. Great for non-gaming rigs as well.

Easy to overclock.

Intel Core i5-2500K - Core i5 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Intel HD Graphics 3000 Desktop Processor - BX80623I52500K

Pros: It came in a nice sealed retail box. The included cooler didn't appear to be of poor quality, but I opted for a after market instead after reading mediocre performance reviews. Overclocked very easily with my 650w power supply. I just raised the multiplier and left the rest of the settings on auto. Ran stable at 4.5 ghz. Under load, the temp ran about 56-58c (Battlefield 3).

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Apparently the difference between this 2500 and the one without the K is a improved video chipset. Yes, it is integrated and located on the CPU now. Also, more importantly, it has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking, which will help you out down the road. The nature of the turbo boost feature of this drive allows for some relatively safe overclocks, as the chip is designed to handle higher clock speeds than it's default core clock speed.

Easy to install, fast drive.

Pros: I popped this into my 3.5" bay with the supplied brackets. Installed windows (via a flash drive) and all my other programs without a hitch. Windows boots in about 15 seconds. Great online support on Corsairs website.

Cons: No instructions included. The most important thing is to enable ACHI before you install your OS to get the best speeds from the drive. No sata cables included. As a gamer, I won't be able to cram all of my Steam Library onto a 128GB drive, but there are plenty of third party apps such as Steam Mover, that will allow me to shuffle them easily back and forth from my mechanical drives.

Overall Review: Cosair has a master sticky on their online forums for windows 7 tweaks. They are primarily intended to reduce the read / write amount to your SSD drive. While the finite lifetime nature of these drives seems to have gotten a lot better over the last year or so, I still followed most of the tweaks to be on the safe side. The main ones just take windows and your browsers temp files off of the flash drive, and turn off things like automatic disk defragmenting.
