Most Critical Review

Neat while it worked..

macally G-S350SUA Aluminum 3.5" SATA USB & 1394 & eSATA External Enclosure
macally G-S350SUA Aluminum 3.5" SATA USB & 1394 & eSATA External Enclosure

Pros: Nice and cheap. FW400x2, USB2.0, eSata, etc.. Looks like my Mac Pro..

Cons: Case worked fine for my backup drive (I used it very little to be honest) at first and when my old ATA drive in my old Lacie enclosure died 3 or 4 months ago, I dropped a 250gb WD in it and copied all my stuff from my iPod to the drive.. Worked fine up until like 2 weeks ago and now all it does is power up.. Tried it with multiple drives and while I can hear them spin up and keep power, Im guessing mine fell victim to the typical Macally 'works for a bit then just craps out' syndrome. Both FW ports dont mount, the USB wont mount.. Havent tried the eSata cause I dont have a card for it, but Im gonna guess that wont mount either..

Overall Review: I dont know if its the power supply, the board or what.. It powers up but wont mount a newer 250GB WD, a 320GB WD laptop drive or an older Maxtor 160GB drive at all.. From previous experience with Macally products at an old job (Kinkos Corporate Tech Support, the stores used Macally products alot), this seems to be Macallys typical MO with their products and I think next time Ill just spend the money and get an OWC case.. My 10 year old Lacie d2 case still works (although its PATA) yet the Macally lasted barely 2 years??

Not so good after all..

PNY Optima 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model MD4096KD2-667

Pros: Cheap and backwards compatible with older systems.. But thats about it.

Cons: Bought this kit in May for my G5. First pair was DOA so Newegg sent me new ones.. Now in the last month or so my Mac has been freezing and kernel panicking like crazy. Decided to run Apple System Diagnostics and my memory failed horribly. ASD, Tech Tool Pro, Memtest, all failed my PNY sticks. The good old Apple factory RAM is still running just fine, too bad now Im back to 2GB of RAM while I wait for PNY to either answer the phone or fix their broken RMA website. Been trying for two days to fill out an RMA request on their site only to be met with a broken ASP form. Next time Ill pay the extra $10 and just get Crucial like I should have 6 months ago. Thanks to the kernel panicking (usually around like 1-2am so it sat with the fans in overdrive all night until I woke up the next morning), my G5 actually overheated and killed a hard drive of mine as well.. Thanks PNY!
