So far so good!

Acer Laptop Aspire Intel Pentium B960 4GB Memory 500GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 17.3" Windows 8 V3-731-4649

Pros: Big screen, plenty of power for generic home use. Initial setup was fast.

Cons: None yet. was a little nervous when I plugged it in the first time when no lights came on to show it was getting power. Came back home a while later and it fired right up though.

Overall Review: Windows 8 is at a minimum, different. I suspect I will like it long term but there is definitely a learning curve getting around initially. Don't be afraid of the look of the keys in the photos either, the have the same look and feel as my old HP with a more traditional looking keyboard.

Good Beginnings

Pros: Great Newegg price, fast shipping, huge capacity. This drive is also quiet. Came packed in bubble wrap and a thick coating of peanuts, so I feel pretty decent about avoiding shipping damage.

Cons: None yet, but there usually aren't many cons to deal with until you lose data anyway.

Overall Review: I have an older MB with only the original SATA spec controllers, so I know I am not using this drive at full output speed. Since I don't do much that would require fast transfer speeds, I can't say whether or not the 5400RPM speed is causing me issues. I do have Win7 Pro running and it happily formatted this drive, although it took about 3-4 hours doing a full format. My last WD drive crashed about 6 months out of warranty, so I'm crossing my fingers on this one, but I also now have a decent backup plan in place. My only reservation on large drives like this is that a physical hardware crash can really kill a lot of information if you aren't prepared.
