Great Price/Performance
Pros: -Sandy Bridge quad core -GTX 460M -6 GB DDR 1333 -7200 RPM HDD -1920x1080 display -Excellent cooling system (separate heatsink/fan assembly for GPU and CPU) -Good build quality -Subtle and not too flashy like many high-end notebooks -LEDs where it counts (on the keyboard, unlike the MSI GX660 models)
Cons: -None so far
Overall Review: I installed an SSD into mine the day I got it so I can't comment on how fast the system is regarding boot times and opening multiple applications. With that said, the system is very snappy with every application I've used. I did some temperature testing tonight and my results are as follows: Two hours of Portal 2: -CPU reached a maximum of 79 C -GPU reached a maximum of 85 C -Ambient temps were close to 23 C I'm pleased with these temperatures as the fans were doing their job and still remained relatively quiet. For anyone who is curious, I've played BFBC2 at highest settings (HBAO off, 1X AA), Crysis (High settings), Portal 2 (completely maxed), all at 1920x1080 and this laptop hasn't had a problem. Great price for performance!
Not so good...
Pros: - Quiet - Competitively priced - Great performance when it works
Cons: - Stopped working after two days
Overall Review: This card was great for a day. It has started artifacting and crashing during BF3. Tested with Kombustor and was able to reproduce the issue. Installing older/newer drivers made no difference.
Great Card!
Pros: - Fairly quiet (when compared to a reference GTX 680) - Factory overclocked - Good temperatures - Priced similarly to other GTX 680s
Cons: - I don't like the stacked 8-pin and 6-pin connectors, but that's no fault to EVGA so I won't be removed an egg for that.
Overall Review: Card has no problem running games like Diablo 3 and Battlefield 3 on highest settings. The max recorded temperature after 2 hours of benchmarking and gaming was 74 C, which is great as my case is a Bitfenix Prodigy.
Great Unit!
Pros: This little unit fits all my needs. It was the only unit with a gold efficiency rating that would fit in my Bitfenix Prodigy with room to spare. The non-modular design isn't a problem as there is plenty of room to tuck the cables in the side of the Prodigy's PSU compartment. It's able to run my system (under load), which may be pushing it but I'll have to test it with a watt meter for sure. System includes: i7 2600K @ 4.5 GHz Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe 16GB DDR3 1866MHz RAM LG Blu-ray Writer GTX 560Ti 448 core Classified 2 x Corsair Force GT 240GB SSD in RAID 0 1 x 2TB Hitachi 7200RPM HDD Zalman Liquid cooler
Cons: None
Great...For 2 months!
Pros: - Seems well built - Outperforms a stock GTX 680
Cons: - A tad on the pricey side - Failed after two months of normal use
Overall Review: I had the card for a total f two months before any 3D related task led to a black screen and a freeze or shutdown. Swapped the power supply in my system as I thought it may have been the culprit but that did not resolve the issue. Replaced the GPU with a friend's and the issues disappeared.
Nice laptop, but....
Pros: Great specs for the price. Very capable gaming laptop. -5870m -i5 460m -4GB DDR3 RAM -7200RPM HDD
Cons: The only reason I gave this laptop 4/5 eggs is because of the issues I have experienced when attempting to upgrade the memory. I've added a known-working stick of DDR3 RAM to the top slot (hidden beneath the keyboard) but the laptop would not boot. After removing the extra memory module, the laptop booted into Windows without issue. I have tested the stick in one of the bottom slots and it worked fine. I haven't been able to pin point the problem yet but it's either a bad RAM slot or possibly the i5 processor capabilities of supporting three separate RAM modules. If the issue is the latter, then there is some false advertising on the packaging for this product as it is stated that the laptop has three DDR3 slots for a maximum of 12GB.
Overall Review: All-in-all this laptop is great bang for the buck. With that said, I'm not sure if my issue is an isolated case or an issue with all of the GX660-260US models. I'd really like to upgrade from 4GB to 6GB but that is looking pretty unlikely at this point.
