Most Critical Review

Mine died....

Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1
Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1

Pros: Great while it worked....BIOS updates are painless, unlike other vendors who have long drawn out update schemes for boot drives....

Cons: After just under 22 months of use, it mysteriously stopped showing up in POST, and being the Boot drive, sorta makes the computer a rather large doorstop. Did the chat support with Crucial (Don't waste your time) and ended up calling them - their servers were down and they said when they come back up, they have some magic way to reset the controller in a non-destructive fashion which has a 98% recovery record.....Let's see if the guy gets back to me when they unbreak their systems.

Overall Review: Bought an M4 as a secondary drive - now reconsidering that move.

Runs hotter then snot

ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: had all the features I was looking for...my last board was an ASUS (1st run AN8SLI Dlx) and that lasted 5+ years....parts that came off the HCL actually work with the board....

Cons: I'm one of the lucky ones who has an IOH chip that IDLES at 80'C ... a quick run out to Asus's website and I'm not the only one....Apparently ASUS used/uses real low quality themal paste underneath the heatpipe assembly and upon prying mine apart, I too had this "earwax" the forum users spoke of. One of their moderators mentioned to another user that 80-90'C was an acceptable temperature range and the thermal cutoff was 100'C and I've hit it more then a dozen times in 3 months....Even having scraped off this garbage thermal paste and replacing it with ArticSilver5 brought it down about 2-3'C ... which isn't enough. My box runs on air and no other monitored temp even gets near warning thresholds, much less danger ones, and it's plenty well ventilated. Network engineer by trade, and this isn't my 1st rodeo with a high end build....Very, Very dissapointed in this board.

Overall Review: I wished I'd waited long enough to buy something else. Will really think long and hard before buying anything from ASUS again.
