Good anti-virus

Kaspersky Pure 2.0 - 3 User
Kaspersky Pure 2.0 - 3 User

Pros: I've been using Kaspersky for several years and have never had a problem. Great protection. I don't understnad the issues others have complained about. I just installed my 3 user License on XP 32 bit laptop, a 7 Pro 64 bit PC and a 7 Home 32 bit PC. All installed and run perfectly.

Cons: As has been discussed, scans are pretty demanding and a full scan can take a lot of time. I'm on a Intel quad core so it isn't really an issue for me, but on a lower end computer it might be a factor.

Overall Review: Full system scans are best done on down times.

Drops connection

ADS Tech ADS TECH PYRO A/V Link w/Adobe Elements V4 Video Device API-557-EFS IEEE 1394 Interface
ADS Tech ADS TECH PYRO A/V Link w/Adobe Elements V4 Video Device API-557-EFS IEEE 1394 Interface

Pros: None so far.

Cons: It simply didn't work right out of the box. It would continually drop the connection anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or so. The video that I did manage to capture wan't bad but there were hundreds of dropped frames. I tried every possible dip switch combination and it still would not work. Mfr's tech support was joke. Their solution was to twist the firewire plug to get it to make better contact and not touch it while recording. Then they marked my case file as resolved without even waiting to hear back from me. Finally, I called them and without even attempting to offer a solution said to return it to Newegg.

Overall Review: The Canopus is a more expensive unit but it seems to get better overall reviews.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Monoprice DisplayPort Male to VGA Female Active Adapter

Pros: What more could you want, you plug it in and it works.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Yes.

Speaker problem

Toshiba 32" 720p 60Hz LED HDTV 32L4200U
Toshiba 32" 720p 60Hz LED HDTV 32L4200U

Pros: Good picture.

Cons: The speakers are absolutely awful. Very tinny sounding and adjusting them made no difference whatsoever. Just plain poor quality. Be prepared to spend some additional cash to add a sound bar.

Overall Review: I expected more from Toshiba.

Problems

ADS Tech PYRO A/V Link *Hardware ONLY* Video Device API-558-EFS IEEE 1394 Interface
ADS Tech PYRO A/V Link *Hardware ONLY* Video Device API-558-EFS IEEE 1394 Interface

Pros: So far there are none, it doesn't work.

Cons: I have had nothing but problems since this unit arrived. The manual is out of date and when I finally found the correction which applied to my unit I noticed it was dated 2006, almost 3 years and they still haven't updated the manual they ship to you. My unit continually drops the connection, and crashes all of my capture software.. Tech support so far is non-existent. I've written several times.t's been 3 days and there has been no response from them at all. I found a post on the internet where someone encountered the same problems and they finally returned the Pyro and bought a Canopus. The Canopus worked perfectly with the same set-up right out of the box.

Overall Review: You can get a bad unit, no matter what you buy, but there is no excuse for the lack of support from the manufacturer.

Premier Elements

Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0
Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0

Pros: The most robust editor in it's price range available. The learning curve is relatively steep, understanding key framing is essential to getting the most out of this software.

Cons: While the specs indicate a very broad range of supported files types, there is really only one, DV-AVI. For almost all other file types, you will need to convert them with another program to DV-AVI before this software will work with them properly.

Overall Review: This is not a general purpose editor, it is intended strickly for use with mini-dv cameras. It should be marketed strictly for the serious amateur or semi-pro market. For the less-serious looking for ease of use and simple editing other products, such as Nero, would be a far better choice.
