4 out of 5 eggs Nice Motherboard, Confusing BIOS 11/02/2014

This review is from: MSI Z97-Gaming 7 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: - Well designed board
- Packed with all the latest interface slots
- Good features for the price
- Cool aesthetics
- BIOS has lots of options

Cons: - BIOS is confusing
- Memory slots are pretty close to the CPU, which makes oversized CPU coolers problematic
- Overclock Genie really doesn't work all that well when overclocking the CPU
- Manual is better than previous MSI manuals, but it's still not all that reliable as a source for beginners

Other Thoughts: I really like MSI motherboards. This is my third one. I only purchased it because it was time to move forward technologically from my last board, not because anything was wrong with the prior one.

The board is pretty well designed, has lots of slots for cards, memory, etc. and looks really cool. The one thing that I thought was great at first, but turned out to be less than what I first thought was the BIOS. Very confusing and a lot of options seem to be redundant and cancel each other out. The boot sequence piece being a prime example.

However, there are plenty of overclocking options for both CPU and memory, and for the price I really can't complain too much about the board.

Pros: Nice laptop for a nice price.I bought this as a birthday present for my step son and he loves it.

Cons: Keyboard layout is wonky. The keys are arranged in sort of a weird way to make room for number keys. I find myself mistyping a lot when I use it.

Other Thoughts: Solid laptop. It looks good, has nice features like the built-in camera and has a nice screen, solid processor and enough memory and hard drive space to be quite useful.

Pros: - Solid, fast memory
- Enjoys being overclocked or, at the very least, doesn't complain about it
- Nice design that looks good in a case

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: I just put 16-gig worth of this on my MSI Z97 and it works like a charm.

The design and color are cool, but because of the design the sticks sit rather tall. I was forced to tweak the way I had my oversized processor cooler set up on the motherboard. Just a little heads up to those thinking of buying this memory and have there memory slots close to the processor.
