Just works!...
Pros: Just works, plug it in to a 3.0 port into a 2.5 drive.. Vroom, interfaced WD 1TB drive under linux trusty tahr. LINUX compatible
Cons: Under windows, who knows?. Not useful for 3.5 inch drives due power issues.
Overall Review: After using the dreadful starcom pex32 sata pcie card, this usb adapter is great!. Same speed as a sata port (IMO) Linux ists it as a ASMedia 2105 SATA bridge. using this adapter with a h87i asus MB. And 3.13.0-45 linux (trusty tahr)
Super
Pros: as fast as a direct SATA cable (i can get 166MBps write speed on a 3.0 USB port on my computer)
Cons: Well not really a con, but it has a tiny light that shows transferring in progress... it is dim, bonus. But if you do not light flashing lights it may be a con... flip side, is thst it has a light and if you need to know if it is on that it is a pro. there may be a small chance (1%?) that the 3.0 version is more compatible, but that observation is only from one incident which I really doubt it is this adaptors problem .
Overall Review: Oddly, this one the 3.1gen (USB3 1 2SAT3CB) my ps4PRO will only detect a HDD with the front USB ports, the rear usb port (only a ps4PRO has a rear usb port) does not detect the drive.. BUT The USB3.0 version (USB3 S 2SAT3CB) on the rear ps4PRO usb port, the ps4pro does detect the the HDD on the rear port (although, it was flakely, which is why i bought this new version) My old version works, and i have decided that it is the ps4pro rear port that is the problem... (i prefer to use new equipment, when all things are the same) (The os4pro specs state that the front USB ports are 3.1 gen1 compatable (gen2 is 10Gbps)... somthat may be why the front ports of the os4pro work "better"... so i just moved my controller charging cable to the back... i wish i could have used to back port because it is "cleaner" and out of the way, but the slighty flakely nature of it has me using the front ports... (i lost all of my games, due to an issue (i think it is the HDD drive, i have not given up on the drive because it is a 4TB SSHD drive... but if the drive "issues out" i will try another HDD. this adapter is designed for 2.5 inch (laptop drives), and my use is with 3.5 drives + 12v Sata custom cable to add 12v... this adapter is not the problem... (all my problems start with my 3.5 drive... i have not experienced any with a 2.5 drive) Too sum up Buy this version, and I trust that this adapter is "bulletproof" and the problem you have with it are not with it, but with your equipment.
Good for console Gaming...
Pros: Great color, decent response, has display port... has features that are hidden... such as it will clone a 4k and a 2k5 monitor, but downsampled on screen (the 4k or 2k5 monitor shows the picture and this monitor show a downsampled picture... Ports stick out from the back, (not sure if good or bad... i think good because it is easier to plug in monitor Monitor menu is easy to get to. The "joystick" for menu access is easy to use.
Cons: i recieved a monitor with a STUCK green sub-pixel .. (shipping it back was to much trouble, really should have... i'll just complain) the stuck pixel is the green sub-pixel because it seems to disappear (or i do not notice it) when playing games on the ps4pro. Screen is shiny. does not like coexisting with a G sync monitor ... had alot of problems, but they were ultimately the display driver... and it seems if theis monitor is a "higher" monitor number does not seem to matter. has a non-stabdard vesa plate. (200x100)
Overall Review: When displaying rate rates higher than 60fps, does not tear... instead looks like the faster frames are synced to 60fps (fraps still shows the correct frame rate... ) monitor light blinks. When in standby.
Conditional... Works
Pros: Gives you additional sata ports... works in the pcieX1 port of a msi h87-g43csm... Works in Linux.
Cons: only works in a pcieX1 slot. (In my experience) Meaning YMMV if you use it in a mini-itx MB.
Overall Review: does NOT transfer data in an asus h87i mini-itx pcieX16... But it does get detected and shows hard drives detected.... Because it was installed in a pcieX16 port. BUT IT DID WORK in a msi h87-g43 pcieX1 slot. So my advice is only use this card in a PCI E x1 slot. I gave this card a 4 stars because it does work in the proper slot.. it does work, so i wanted to give it 3-2-1 stars but it does work, so it does not deserve a lower rating.
Eliminates the spaghetti cables...
Pros: cleans up the cable mess in an mini-itx case. the perfect accessory for the node 304 case.
Cons: Not a "remove a star issue", but the latch fingers on the cables sometimes require "lifting" with a sharp edge, (Careful, a Knife) .. Because some drives sata ports are a bit loose...
Overall Review: The drives that the cables in the stock state have trouble latching to are the WD RED 1TB... a slight mod make them fit tightly (BTW, i bought 10).
connected!.
Pros: it sits flush to the wall, so it can not wiggle free. leaves just enough space so a power bar will fit above it. (must be the straight plug type) better technology that allows it to be 50% faster than homeplug av (or always faster than homeplay AV, the two prong variety.) WILL work other homeplug AV products because it is Homeplug AV certified. gigabit port!... (see other thoughts) and this will make all of the other units faster.
Cons: only single port, thus needs a switch to add ports to it.
Overall Review: your wiring will determine the speed. but in a recent house of 4000 square feet (build around 2004) you will get a minimum of 100 Mbps, and a maxiumum of 250 Mbps. (and this is from the utility that is supplied on the linksys site. linsys powerline av2 utility) you will get about 50% to 100% better speeds compared to a homeplug AV, such as an intellon enabled product. (the no longer sold WD Livewire) it is easy to get other units to sync with it, plug in the Linksys plek 500, then plug in the other unit, then press the sync button on the plek 500 for about 10 seconds , then go to the other unit and press the sync button. if you have more than six units, sync each unit separately after six... (oddly enough, it will recognize more than six units (at least 8; 4 plek 500's and 4 homeplug av) but you need to sync them when there are less than 6 units total connected.) if will connect more than 6 units!... only applys to syncing them.
