Price and Performance in the sweet spot
Pros: - Its the Gaming CPU we've been waiting 6 generations for - Finally making its first step down from 14nm to 10nm node process since 2015
Cons: - none -
Overall Review: Upgrading from an Intel i7 6700k was worth it. Can't complain as this does exactly what I need. Light applications and plenty of high end gaming. Don't expect the Integrated Graphics (IG) to give you gaming performance you'll want. You're not buying this CPU for graphics capability.
Great until now
Pros: The memory is fast as advertised. Runs great for gaming and all other computational tasks. Price is a nice balance between cost/performance.
Cons: RAM has started to fail after 4 months. Memtest86+ has found specific addressable blocks, so I will need to RMA the moduals.
Overall Review: I'm irritated that I'll have to RMA the RAM i purchased, but as log as Crucial doesn't give me a hard time. I would buy from them again. The RAM has been running great up until a couple of weeks ago.
Little Dynamite
Pros: There are so many things to like about this chip: 1) *** So easy to Overclock!!! (3.8 Ghz on Zhalman CNPS9900ALED Max Temp < 80c) 2) Lots of L2 and L3 cache. The 16-way Set Assoc cache keeps TLB misses low and its branch predictor is only rivaled by the upcoming Sandybridge 3) 8 logical cores - Games like SC2 and Eve really like to have the extra cores for computation. No game lag from CPU thats for sure. 4)
Cons: Only the price really. I wouldn't buy one at more then $279.
Overall Review: Get a good CPU cooler and there is no reason not to OC this CPU. 3.8 Ghz is pretty decent, there is no reason you can't run this chip at least 3.4 Ghz with a little work.
Logevity nil
Pros: Great color reproduction, clarity, and great for gaming. DVI and VGA support.
Cons: Defective after 6 months. No height adjustment, no swivel.
Overall Review: I've had this monitor for about 6 months now and aside from the lack height adjustment I've thought the monitor was good. Not as great as view sonic but good. Today it just bit the dust. I got a single vertical line of green pixels stuck. They show up even when the monitor is not connected to an output device (my PC). I've had dozens of monitors in my life and this is the first I've had this happen to. There is no way a quality product should have had this happen. I talked to Samsung and they are going to replace it under warranty, but no advanced RMA process, so I'm back to an older 17" LCD in the mean time. What a black eye Samsung.
Great Mobo for 939 - Not all RAM Compatible
Pros: 2- PCI-E x16 slots. Included USB and Firewire port wires. Great spacing for CPU fan Zalman CNPS7700-Cu.
Cons: NVIDA firewall software is a nusiance, but it can be disabled. My 512mb (256x2) Kingston Value RAM (KVR400x64C3AK2/512) would not work with this board. Be careful if you have this RAM.
Overall Review: Overal a decent board but the incompatibility with my RAM set me back another $xxx for a replacement 1GB kit
Disappointment
Pros: none
Cons: Incompatible. This item would not work with my MSI k8t neo2 -f (ms-6702e) mobo.
Overall Review: After several days of troubleshooting involving BIOS, VIA chipset drivers, BIOS settings, 2 new PSUs. I could not get this card to work in my computer. The card did work in another PC so be aware there may be hard ware conflicts with the VIA K8T 800 Pro chipset.
