Fans are unreliable, card is unstable
Pros: The card has good performance, and when the fans are new they are very quiet. It does not consume much power, especially compared to the GTX 295 that it replaced. MSI has been around a while, and their products are USUALLY high quality, but not this time.
Cons: The fans fail fast, within roughly a year. When they do they make an unacceptable amount of noise. The cards tend to be unstable, even though I rarely game these days, don't overclock, and the temperatures are under 50C.
Overall Review: I bought two of these cards in 2011 to replace my GTX 295 and GTX 8800 combo. I took a small step down in performance in an attempt to reduce PC power consumption and noise. At first the cards ran without issues, but after 6 months, one of the fans failed on one card, and 6 months later, the 2nd card had a fan fail. I am stuck with only 2 out of 4 fans working, and the fans are noisy, which is completely unacceptable for a home theater room or any quiet environment. While I understand these cards aren't top of the line, they cost way too much money to be failing this fast. I have bought MSI products for well over a decade, and this product line represents a low point for quality. Given the fact that these cards cost hundreds of dollars, they need to least years, not months. I will be looking at a different brand in the future, and as long as MSI continues to use the twin frozr design will recommend that others steer clear.
