A Good Deal

Lenovo Desktop PC M58P 2.33GHz 2GB DDR3 160GB HDD Windows 7 Home Premium
Lenovo Desktop PC M58P 2.33GHz 2GB DDR3 160GB HDD Windows 7 Home Premium

Pros: - Seriously affordable. I purchased mine for $100. - Everything works. - New keyboard & mouse included. - Quiet. - Hasn't had a single hiccup in a day and a half of running.

Cons: Considering the price and listed specs, there are none worth mentioning. It arrived at my house fully functioning and ready to go, and that's the most important check-box to tick when you spend $100 on a complete computer.

Overall Review: These were almost definitely leased out, as opposed to actually sold to the seller. Therefore, they are likely to be in better shape than actual "used" as in "fully owned, abused, broken, then sold" would be. They also tend to be "luck of the draw". Actual components might be different between two different computers. For example, mine isn't truly an m58p. It's an m58 (7638-A2U). Not a big deal to me, but worth mentioning. This system shows in some places as being expandable to 16gb RAM, but it's truly only expandable to 8. It CAN handle 609.5 mhz, and it can handle low-latency kits as well. The mobo is PLGA775, though it only indicates as LGA775 on the mobo itself. There is, contrary to popular belief, just enough difference that I won't be able to plop one of the reasonably capable Core 2 Quad procs in as a replacement. The included drive is SATA II but the mobo only supports SATA I. There is, actually, room for a slim GPU (low profile, of course) and still space afterwards for a wireless networking card. None of these things concern me in the slightest. I needed something very basic to last me 1-3 months, and this is far better than I would have expected, before even considering the price. I only mention these things because someone out there will be curious of exactly what to expect. I was trying my best to figure out particulars before ordering. Also: - Proc: e6550. - HDD: Samsung HD161GJ (Very clean, could well be new.) - RAM: 1 Micron 1GB, 533 mhz (Jan 2010). 1 Elpida 1GB, 533 mhz (Nov 2009). Is DDR3, supposedly 204-pin (sometimes referred to as 'laptop memory') as opposed to 240-pin (desktop memory). Hopefully that pile of stat can give you a more specific idea of what's in the box. Just know: if you need a backup desktop, this really isn't a bad choice.

Most Critical Review

The exception to the rule

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model F2-5300CL4D-4GBSQ
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model F2-5300CL4D-4GBSQ

Pros: Well, none.

Cons: Sadly, neither stick turned out ot work properly. The first was immediately (though not physically) and obviously not working properly. Bluescreens in Windows, system faults in Lubuntu. A memory test showed error after error with that stick. The second stick seemed to be a winner, and I was content to just have 2gb for the time being. Sadly, it has also failed at least once an hour since I popped it in. I haven't run memory testing on it, but whatever the cause, I now have 2 sticks I can't use, and therefore RMA is necessary.

Overall Review: I love G.Skill products. Seriously. I'll continue to order them. Seriously. This is the exception to the rule, so far. If it becomes` the rule, though, I'll be finding a new favorite brand. Please don't make me do that, G.Skill. That's a massive pain in the backside. Don't send me any more defective RAM.

Even more useful than I first realized

C2G 40645 3.5mm Stereo Male To Dual RCA Female Audio Adapter, TAA Compliant, Black
C2G 40645 3.5mm Stereo Male To Dual RCA Female Audio Adapter, TAA Compliant, Black

Pros: I needed to plug a PS3 into a computer monitor that had neither HDMI nor sound capability. As far as sound goes, this affordable little thing allows me to run the sound through the A/V and directly into a speaker. No notable degradation of quality, no hassle. Simple and cheap.

Cons: Seriously, none so far. Have had it for more than a month, works flawlessly to this day.

Overall Review: Shipping was decidedly quick.

Works as well as it needs to

BYTECC DVI-HM DVI Male to HDMI Female Cable Adapter
BYTECC DVI-HM DVI Male to HDMI Female Cable Adapter

Pros: I needed to plug a PS3 into my current computer monitor. Couldn't afford to invest in a newer one with HDMI ports. This adapter did the job I needed it to do, and saved me a big pile of money.

Cons: None worth mentioning. The adapter is quite long, but it really isn't any longer than any other such adapter I've used before.
