Vantec better than Sabrent

Pros: It works "if" you're careful with the connections AND the drive can be placed very close to both a power outlet and a USB port on your computer.

Cons: Poor quality connectors. Short cables and power cord.

Other Thoughts: A couple of years ago I purchased Vantec's version of this device (the CB-ISATAU2) and was so pleased with it I decided to get another to keep at a relatives. Unfortunately, I stumbled across this Sabrent which appeared to be the same thing for less, and decided to give it a try.

Sadly, the quality of the pins on in male side of the adapter to convert from IDE to SATA for the power connection is so bad that they vary in length AND wiggle so badly it's difficult to mate with the female side of the adapter. Also, the power cord comes loose from the power adapter very easily.

Just as bad, all the cords and cables are "much" shorter than the Vantec unit.

I give it a 2 instead of a 1 only because I can make it work "if" the cords and cables are long enough for the situation.

Pros: Worked well. I used it to clone an 80 GB notebook hard drive to a new 640 GB.

Cons: Fair build quality but how many times will I have to clone a drive.

Sabrent Ide/sata to usb

Pros: Great product does what it says it will do. no issues with showing drives on pc.

Cons: The casing is a little bulky considering the power cable has to sit next to the ide-usb connection. causing a little difficulty connecting the hard ware.

Other Thoughts: all and all good device, I just have a few drives I switch back and forth between. So I am forced to order a secound Sabrent Ide/sata to usb cable.
